No. I have 5100s all around. I was most worried about the rear handling when I changed things.

I know everyone likes to promote the genius of their specific choice, but I can honestly say, 5100s were a massive improvement for my truck. Sounds impossible, but better onroad and off-road. I have no complaints. Truck feels planted and all the jarring broken pavement double-hits I experienced with the stock shocks were mellowed out.

I also have an add-a-leaf, but my ride is not harsher.

They are cheap and cheerful, and easy to swap, so it might be worth you experimenting. My uses include daily driving, logging roads, some rougher tracks, road trips etc.

I swear to god im at the end of my shit. im almost ready to rip out the rear icons, throw the factory bilsteins and leafs in and just drag my ass to work. I don't even give a shit anymore. Icon can go fuck themselves. "oh, yes sir, a much smoother ride over stock on and off road" its not smoother either on or off road so I don't know what theyre talking about. I just wanted to take the pitch and roll out of the truck while riding trails, it did that but at the cost of cracking my windshield or my spine. im 40 and have been doing this shit for a long time, this is my 17th vehicle and my 3rd Tacoma, I was grossly misinformed by Icon and the shop that took my money...waaa waaa I know

    I feel your pain.

One experiment you could try, is just put your stock OR shocks back in. See what that changes. It might help answer the “springs or shocks” question.

I’d do this first if possible. They’ll be extended but it’ll be better than getting rid of expensive shocks right away if that’s not the problem.

One question, if I do that and I go over something that really lifts up the rear, do I risk ripping the piston right out of the shock body or am I being ridiculous?

I doubt driving on pavement that you could exceed the maximum droop travel of the stock shocks. You’d have to be jumping the truck.

I think I’d wait for someone else to chime in. I’ve never run shocks extended like that. If someone else says it’s ok, I’d listen to them.

Make sure that the rear springs were installed with the longer end towards the rear of the truck (lomger end from the centering pin).

I've had the rear lift off the road and lost 100% traction, this was with stock parts...did I mention the roads here are a nightmare. For $150 I ordered a set of rear 5100's. I think it will answer a lot of questions. If the ride is just as terrible for me then I know it's the leaf springs and will swap the pack for something else. So I'm gonna wait a couple days til the new bilsteins come in. Who the fuck knows, we'll see

I was originally going to go with kings but my guy said they dont hold up well in the winter with the road salt. I just took his word and asked about the icons. He didn't say shit about digressive or regressive or progressive or any essive

Did you also Add new tires when you lifted your truck?

Because if you did, such as KO2s / E load, that could be a big contributor to your prob.

I had an OR for 6 months and now a PRO for 20 months. Both OR and PRO had really mushy shocks. I like stiff shocks, after all is a truck.

I assume they would behave similarly in the same way a Hyundai behaves similarly to a Mercedes.
