I don’t have a clue where the “Y” Pipe is. Nor do I have a clue where the cats are.

I was not raised building or fixing vehicles.

I was raised in a different world: Military, construction and academia.

I know little about the v6... but the after cat o2 is going to look just like the bank 1. The sensor goes into a Threaded bung that is in the exhaust... stupid statement here but is there actually 2 sets of O2 sensors? My volkswagen had a bank 1 and a bank 2 and the sensors were obvious pieces of metal sticking out with wires going into it.

 

No time for a shop when there is wheeling and a por luck to be had. Lloyd if your truck isn’t ready just drive the prius and you can ride with me

There are two sensors for bank 1 and bank 2, according to my google of the P0420 and P0430. And sensors are different part numbers. I’ll go ahead and order the sensors. Amazon has the cheapest Denso’s

 

Worst case we can look into it at AOAA too.

 

Not throwing in the towel yet. Gonna do a few little things here and there to see if I can fix.

Did you do plugs or anything recently? Disconnect some shit in the engine bay? I know youre a meticulous freak but mistakes are made. Maybe something is unplugged throwing codes. Check that there is current going to the actual o2 sensors. Maybe you popped a fuse.

You said you didn’t know what a Y pipe was. Just helping

 

I did however, earn a “automotive“ merit badge for changing oil/ filter, changing a flat, replacing windshield wipers and explaining the basics of an internal combustion engine.

 

I need one of those “ certified YouTube mechanic” patches.

Y pipe is the exhaust forming a “y” under the truck. If you’re looking at the side of the truck the joint is probably just towards the front of the driver/passenger door underneath

With all this great guidance, I’m inspired to go out now and find this fucking y-pipe, Cats, and sensors.
