Hey guys, looking for any input, advice, tips or tricks you may have. I'm replacing the clutch, master cylinder, slave cylinder, URD throwout bearing upgrade, and a few other odds and ends on my 06 V6 4WD. Been looking around online trying to find accurate locations for all of the electrical connectors out of the immediate line of sight that will need to be disconnected before I drop the trans. I've removed all wiring from the transfer case. Anything pertaining to this job that you think might be remotely helpful, fire away. Thanks in advance!

I am pretty certain that you can find the Toyota service manual (free) for your 2nd Gen in that forum. I think I stumbled across it once. If you can't find it, the 3rd Gen SM is here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-availability-pdf.485229/page-5#post-17553810

For the transmission, it should be close and will give you all the steps.

While you are in there, you might think about deleting the stupid accumulator? There's a couple threads on it in the 2nd Gen forum. Depending on how the clutch lines are setup (different than the 3rd Gens), you might get away with just a brass coupler?

I had seen a bunch of posts regarding the accumulator in the 3rd Gen forums, but next to nothing in the 2nd. Was thinking maybe a difference in design that doesn't beg deleting it on 2nd gens? If I can get a better pedal feel from it then I'll do it. Don't dislike how it felt, but I'm always down for DIY improvements. Thanks for the input

    No problem!

The 2nd Gen forum is where I started getting my ideas:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-does-a-clutch-fluid-accumulator-do.180006/

I only test drove a couple 2nd Gens that felt pretty good. The one big difference was the longer throw and seemingly less feel of the 3rd Gen. I did get more feel with it gone. The 2nd Gen folks say that some upgraded clutches require the delete to get extra throw. rat107 mentions that in the linked thread.

Love my 2018 6MT. Was lucky to find one with the color and specs that I want.

Sometimes, rarely, when I come to a stop I'll feel a slight jolt forward like if someone lightly hit the truck from behind. I have a a 2018 TRD-OR manual transmission. I've been trying to characterize specifically when this happens. I think it happens if I stop while in 2nd gear, then when stopped with the clutch and brake pedal depressed, I shift into first. Does this happen to anyone else?

Sounds like axle wrap to me, my '99 had it bad...would come to a stop and half the time there'd be a big 'THUMP' a few seconds later that felt like I got tapped from behind by another car. Happens when the leafs bind up and release.

i never had it like that for whatever reason. i have it occasionally under acceleration with the thumping sensation kind of rhythmic. but i obviously back down the throttle to avoid that.

I've never had it on my 04, I just figured it was more of an auto trans related truck issue for whatever reason...seems mostly auto owners talking about getting it. But leaf springs binding up could be an issue on either platform I imagine...I'm running aftermarket leaf springs so maybe that's why I haven't had it.

It's been pretty cold these mornings, so could that be the reason. I don't think I felt it before this week. Is there a way to stop it?

Is there a way to prevent it from happening?

If it just started happening intermittently I'd grease your driveline zerks (assuming you have them) because I know on 1st/2nd gens you can get a lot of clunking from the driveline when its running dry. If it turns out to be from the leaf springs I don't really know of any way to fix it other than swapping heavier duty aftermarket springs in.

Axle wrap is a pretty well documented issue on TW though so maybe someone else has a better solution

@TriniPhantom to me, that reminds me of the driveline thump I had in my 5th gen 4Runner (MY 2010). It felt like getting bumped, or lightly tapped from behind after you come to a complete stop. That was caused by dry joints in the driveshaft and slip yoke. The fix was to grease the zerks and the slip yoke. I agree with @eon_blue .

Since you’ve got a 2018, unfortunately the rear drive shaft doesn’t come with zerk fittings. It might be one of those things that gets better with time.

Hmmm I see. I'll keep monitoring it. Since it doesn't come with zerk fittings, how do you grease the driveshaft and slip yoke?

I think the newer 3rd gen Tacomas have a sealed or non-greasable driveshaft that "never needs greasing"....but we know how that usually goes.

In that case, I'd have Toyota check it out especially if you're still under warranty

Someone posted about installing a zerk fitting in the carrier bearing and said that it helped with driveline clunk / lash issues. I don't think pics were ever posted. If there was one, would the grease get to the slip yoke?

I was just wondering that myself, hard to say without seeing the driveshaft but I know you can put zerk fittings on just about anything...whether or not it would actually work and get the grease where you want/need it is another story though.
