Wood burning at elevation under X,000 Feet (I think 8,500) has been illegal since 1980's across the front range, minus those grandfathered in. Plus if Chimney is designed for gas burning, it will not support wood burning.

Apparently it's 7000 feet and only during restriction days?

I second the ctek linked earlier. It’s worked well for the agm battery in the land cruiser.

    Stove is different than fireplace.
Can get a stove with an epa rating and you're all good.

I guess having a fireplace is a thing of the past. Young whipper snappers won't know what they are, like a VHS tape. Who am I kidding they won't even know how to start a fire. Ruined by kids playing with matches.

RE: fireplaces. There are no blanket statements or hard dates. There's state laws, there's county laws, and there's municipal laws. Larimer isn't on the list of counties on the state page, but they have their own rules, and Fort Collins has more rules past that (like smoke must be clear after 15 minutes of operation). Some of them adopt and enhance, and much of it is based on the uniform building code and whatever edition is currently adopted by the regulatory agency. For example some of them cite UBC 2002, so well after the 80s. But that doesn't mean something didn't start in the 80s and then get modified or updated, or that there aren't exceptions (you can get a letter if it's your primary heat source). "Fireplace" is also a really generic term and 'real' fireplaces are really inefficient. You can get an open insert that looks like a fireplace and still meets EPA regs so the ban wouldn't apply. Here's the state page, look up your own county/city:
