If you’ve lost any air pressure on a sealed system you have a bad seal so a recharge will only temporarily solve the issue.

Unless you’re just changing PSI. That’s different.

Yes, this is true. My statement was very generic and obviously there are exceptions.

I interpreted the bold for my initial response.

Is that logical or am I missing something?

Yea, I got my front coilovers rebuilt a year ago but I think my rear shocks -- while I haven't seen any leaks -- could use a check on nitrogen since they haven't been maintained since I bought them.

I never thought there would be someone less motivated than @Titus94 to work on their own truck, but here we are.

I would love to work on my Taco but drilling into a brand new truck frame versus rebuilding my old '85 4Runner is a different story... especially when the Taco is our daily driver for my wife and kids.

Actually, I don't think Colton has painted his sliders yet, so he's back in the lead.

Any one near San Marcos (or anywhere in San Diego) with a roof top tent on their truck? I'm planning to get a RTT soon but my wife wants to see the space inside before we order one. Thanks!

    Yes
I was just thinking that schrader valves with such high pressure will leak a bit over time, hose fittings may leak a bit over time IE: not necessarily a bad component ?

That’ll be awesome to see your tent. Which model do you have? The hard sell is convincing my wife that a $1000 RTT is better than our $100 ground tent.

That’s always the hard sell and $1k is a good deal for one. You have a long bed too so you can always go with the larger size like @Prayn4surf has. Not sure what model exactly.

I guess it’s not out of the realm of possibility to loose a little pressure but I’d be willing to say most leaks that start don’t stop. Once you loose too much pressure you loose shock performance and something needs to be replaced, even if it’s just a seal.

A hose fitting is something that can often times just be retightened if a leak starts. Assuming you’re still referring to a shock, if a leak starts in a hose you’re dealing with fluid not gas.

More often than not, if you’ve lost gas pressure, the IFP seal is bad and the shock is emulsified and needs a rebuild, assuming their are no exterior leaks. If you just do another charge you’re just adding to the problem.

Couple shocks, some old tires, and a bad paint job
Put a gauge on the valve.

I thought since the volume in a shock is low, the quick loss of gas when checking with a gauge can drop ~10 psi. Most tire gauges only go to 100psi so he still needs a special gauge.

It’ll be great to see your RTT. Any plans on heading up the 15 anytime soon? I’m about an hour north from Spring Valley.

Not really. I was up the 15 headed to Cleghorn last Sunday. I’m free this Sunday Monday if you come south.
