Think in terms of bed sizes. I convinced my wife by showing the pad was the size of a queen mattress with a bench on the end for her duffle

Sounds about right. I got the smallest one available by Tepui and it is just big enough for 2 people.

That's pretty accurate. I've got the CVT Mt. Shasta and it's queen sized, but the extra foot room is perfect for gear / pets, and surprisingly the 50" height makes it feel even larger than it actually is on the inside.

Looks good. Is it possible to mount it with the door facing the right instead of the left? I know that then the windows will face the truck but I wont be accessing the truck thru annex and dont need the windows to face out either.

i dont believe so. the inside has the sliding piec that fits into the channel where the cover slides on. There is a zipper on the inside that faces the vehicle to where you can unzip and access the door.

    Great shot!
I'm thinking how far I need to move back the tent on the bars to get that pole up in the front driver. It was too close to get the pole on on mine so instead i used one of those bungees into the hook/flap and wrapped to the rear passenger handle.

No there is a zippergimp type attachment that slides into the channel of the 3 sides on the front of the tent under the flap. Then the annex zips on around the zippergimp so it makes set up very simple.

Only draw back is you cant mount the shoe bags like originally designed.

I have the Ayer as well, and I'd def call it a "backpacker" 2 person. If you aren't super familiar with the person you are sharing your tent with, it gets pretty small.

Yep. It's tight for two. Not so tight it's uncomfortable, but we definitely get close in it.

A benefit if you bring your other half, a potential downfall if you bring your bro. Thankfully, most of my friends bring their own tent. One time I had to share, but we are both avid backpackers as well, so there was an implied agreement between us.

More like big spoon privilege gets traded around 230 am. The trick is to claim little spoon first, so when the morning comes you don't have any additional uh...lumbar support...

    Yeah.
Unless you have a long bed, not sure if you can move it far enough back. I have the OEM roof rack that has some small loops, I use a bungee to that. Works with my mid-height rack, but door handle might work better for those low racks.

    LOL. Nope.

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing. I got CBI overland bars so they are low and it seems like I can push back about 2 inches on rails. Then I had lined up the bars under the screws on the tracks of the RTT. I figured that was the best place to support the weight but I may try to push it back a little more and see if I can get enough space on the front end. My only concern is i might be be hanging too far back but my fear might be unwarranted :)

    Thanks!

I pretty much centered mine up on the bed. I just used the one pole and left the other side on the I guess "storage retainer". I suppose I'll rig up a bungee if I want it full open on that side.
