Yeah I don't know but the mechanic was saying they can resleeve it and make it stronger if I want. I'll have to call them in the morning and ask. If that's true, I might get a thicker gauge because that will take a lot of abuse over time.

Found a shop that rebuilds driveshafts. Complete new pipe, thicker gauge and then balanced for $350. I thought that was a wicked deal.

For future if anyone needs it.

It is steel. Complete new thicker pipe and welded at the ends.i wanted to go even thicker but he didn't recommend it since that's normally used on 5 ton trucks and would put a lot of stress on my joints.

I might have a balancing issue but we will deal with that if/when I get there. Our trucks have another smaller shaft that connects to the front, which wasn't broke so we left it at the time. The entire shaft is balanced as one unit. With the new shaft balanced on it's own, they might not work well together. We'll see.

    Another $1000 quote.

Driving the north of Gatineau to pick up this $300 driveshaft is looking more realistic.

Hey @Canadian Joe did you import your SCS' or go across the border for pick up? I was in talks to get a Bronze set...they're willing to let me preorder for when they arrive late November. Wondering if you remember how bad your customs/duties were?

Looks like they can rebuild CV axles too? Could be a resource when going LT...

Yeah. Quoted me $800 to $1000 to have one built.

I know cv’s are a bit more forgiving when rebuilding. It’s messy but can be done at home. Driveshaft needs to be balanced where cv’s aren’t as crazy of a deal. Think there is a few tutorials on how to re build cvs

    Interesting, thanks for the pointer.

CV axles typically don't require balancing because the shaft is one-piece machined vs a multi-piece weldment, and spins at ~1/4 the driveshaft speed.
