My truck recieved the 62 TSB. It still surges when the wheel is turned. So...

Yeah, mine too. Every time I back out of my driveway or parking spot, as soon as I turn the wheel it surges. Almost backed me right into a concrete barrier today.

The further along I go with this truck, I'm realizing I have almost every issue that's mentioned on TW. So when Corp says "that's normal", I'm starting to think it IS normal. And that all trucks have these problems. Some people just don't know it yet. This truck is driving me bonkers.

It is a race for 6th gear.

    https://www.dieselnet.com/standards/cycles/hwfet.php

Have a look at that graph. Normal people (unless its stop and go rush hour) accelerate to a speed and more or less maintain it. The dumb EPA test changes speed every 2 seconds up and down to as low as 30 and never higher than 60.

That might even make sense for city driving but that graph is the highway test. It should be accelerate to 75 and maintain it up and down inclines.

Toyota asked their engineers to tune the shifting for maximum economy during that specific test. Too bad they did that and too bad the test simulates the 405 instead of a normal highway.

My surge did go away after the tsb.

Never bothered me but I did notice and after seeing the latest TSB which takes care of the surge by using the 0062 file, I tested it and it was no where to be seen.

That's wild. I have confirmed I have the new calibration (62) and still have the surge as I always did. The tsb did fix my hesitation though. Crazy.

I said nothing about acceleration. Don't try to confuse the facts to justify the fact that you were wrong. Accept it and move on. Just think twice before trying to call someone out in the future if you don't know what you are talking about.

    This is what you said.

At which point I informed you there was never a TSB released to address that particular condition and that many people, like myself, who have this stumble condition that you described in the second quote above have found that using a higher octane gas can get rid of that stumble.

It was at this point in our "conversation" that you got butt hurt for an unknown reason.

Just had mine done and there is a noticeable difference when flooring it, hesitation is gone ...CAL is ID went from 6000 to 6100. No issues at the Calgary dealership. :)

That option is not completey off the table..did Toyota buy it back from you at an equal value of what you had spent on it? Or did you sell privately?

Traded it in on a sports car we wanted. I also have a 4Runner which has been completely trouble free, smooth, and rock solid.

Finally got the ECU updated on my truck - 2018 TRD Pro DCSB (delivery June 2018) having 1,800 miles on it.

I ended up going to where I purchased the Truck, Toyota Town in Stockton, CA, even though it was an hour away, they took care of me and treated me with awesome customer service. It was straight forward as me telling them the issue and them knowing that it can't be replicated in our altitude. They said, ok, let's see if the TSB is applicable to your truck and we'll get you updated. No lame excuses and holding on to my truck for a few days. One hour later, I was done and very thankful! I even got a sticker! :D

A huge thanks to everyone on this thread and the forum!

Anyway, here's the info I got from my scans...

    Calibration ID (ECU 7E1)

    Before: 896650404000
    After: 896650404100

    Calibration ID (ECU 7E0)
    Before: 8966304A60000
    After: 8966304A6100

    Immediate observations
Have driven it approximately 200 miles (75% highway)
    • Shifting is smoother
    • Better pedal throttle control
    • Lower RPMs while at constant speed at 70-75MPH
      • Less noise from the exhaust drone (lower RPM)
    • Dare I say better gas mileage
      • I used to just get 19MPG max on mostly highway
      • I actually reached 22.5MPG!

Will keep an eye on performance over time and report back.

Sticker is located on the underside of the hood, the corner closest to the driver

I notice the same change in MPGs. I have been stuck at 19 since I bought the truck and got 21.9 on my last fill up. I was thinking it was either I didn't fill it up all the way or they switched to the winter blend. Fingers crossed at my next fill up that it stays in the 20s.

My 2016 does stumble occasionally, would this TSB apply?
I think I get good gas milage, average 21.5-22.

    Hey there,

5143 and at South Pointe. Not sure they even test drove it as my Drone was going off but only 5 minutes at a time. Took them a few hours.

Meet the epa specs and disappoint
Its weird that the new cal fixes issues for some trucks and some not. How can a tsb for a surge not fix the surge??

Please report back after a few thousand miles. I am interested to know if the current feel sticks.

I'm at 3000 miles post-tsb and for me it's back to how it was pre-tsb as far as gear hunting goes. Although, I don't have the surges as intensely as before the tsb. So that's a plus for the time being. Tick tock.

I would report (other than a new very loud, if not hideous, howling at lower speeds now) that my truck is actually back to shifting very well and my “miss” feeling is gone thanks to Costco premium fuel (for those that think premium makes no difference).
