I have a 2017 Tacoma purchased 16 months ago and have 12,700 miles. Saturday it would not start had to jump the battery, drove around that day and Sunday, Monday battery dead again.
Charged battery drove Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday battery dead again. Called dealer and
took truck in for service, battery had dead cell so they replaced the battery. What is going on with batteries in Tacoma's. I have seen others with the same issue mostly 2016 Tacoma's, for
what you have to pay for this vehicle you would think they would put a battery in them that would last longer than 16 months.

Batteries fail due to weather and usage and sometimes just fail because. It happens. If you get a noco genius charger and keep it topped off it will fail less but I replaced a lot of batteries, some even on PDI's.

The batteries in these trucks are horrible. Use the opportunity to get an AGM sealed battery.

Never got an issue with my 16 Tacoma, almost 3 years and 0 battery issues.
I wouldn't complain to much, your battery was under warranty. Batteries are a funny subject.
If the new battery start failing again that will be a bigger concern.

With all of the reports I’ve seen here of dead batteries I replaced mine in the first 2 months with an AGM 31m. The non sealed lead acid batteries in Arizona don’t tend to last long and leak off camber off road. I use a Battery minder to keep it and the Wife’s Odyssey in good health.

Good time to invest in a Northstar or Odyssey Battery.

yep, my battery died at 35, 9xx miles... a few miles from my warranty expiring. so instead of getting a warrantied replacement, which is simply kicking the problem down the road for later, i ponied up and bought an Odyssey. because confidence is worth some money.

Its not just Tacomas having battery issues, i'm a Ford technician and it seems like now a days if battery last 3 years its a miracle. I put a Odyssey battery in my 2011 Mustang GT after the two motorcraft batteries died after 3 years each. I will be going to Odyssey when the factory one dies in my Tacoma also.

I'd like to do this also, but it doesn't seem it's as easy as popping the old one out and the new one in. Curious to see what others have done. I can get a Northstar in my area easily, but dang, they're $300.

A Guy at work has a 2016 Tacoma limited. A few weeks ago his battery was dead, the dealer was closed so he went to a auto parts store and purchased a new battery. Monday at work he tells me the story about the dead battery. I advised him to contact the local dealer and ask them if the Tacoma’s have a battery problem and if it’s under warranty. The next night at work he tells me that he talked to the dealer and they told him that many 3rd gen Tacoma’s have this problem BUT it is not a recall issue ( yet).
They did give him a new battery but the auto parts store would not take back the return on the used ( 2 days) battery.

Yeah from what i have seen, no one has made a battery tray to fit a tacoma with an Odyssey correctly and cleanly yet. I could be wrong, but i have yet to see pics of it

Do you have a picture of your set up? I've got a ways before I'll have to, but wondering how I'll do it.

So the Odyssey 34R-PC1500 fits perfectly in the stock tray with hold down? That would be great, thats odd that Odyssey doesn't even list a battery for the 3G Tacoma

These “factory” batteries are not made by Toyota, they buy them from Johnson Controls who makes a ton of batteries under a bunch of brand names. This type of lead acid battery have a normal life of 1 to 5 years depending on several circumstances.

Zero chance you’ll see a battery recall.

Finally, someone who really knows rather than just opinion. Wet lead acid batteries are mass produced and there will be a certain percentage that just fail. A lot depends upon a lot of factors. Use and if misuse being amount the biggest. This not just a Toyota issue.

Strange isn't it. My father has a 2006 Toyota Corolla and it has the original battery in it (almost 13 years old as he bought it in fall of 2005) and my 10 year old Honda Civic had the original battery in it as well. Probably sign of the times - trying to save a few dollars by getting lower quality batteries.
