Totally agree with almost all that, except for that last part. Being stupid like I am I traded a 2017 TRD OR DCSB 4WD without the tech/premium package and got $31,500 and paid $35,000 for it before TTL. When I asked about trading for a PRO they offered me $33,800 for my 17 TRD OR DCSB 4WD with the tech/prem/JBL package that I paid $36,500 before TTL, both had similar mileage at the times of trade/potential trade. So the tech/prem package at least for Tacoma's will help with trade / resale at least at a Toyota dealer.

That's true when going back to Toyota, I'll give you that. If you're going to different dealerships or selling privately it's not gonna help nearly as much.

Yep, since they'll likely send it to auction, will have to sell at a greater discount to attract different brand buyer to lot.

    Very well said.

I was looking for a second generation Tacoma that was a good value, the prices people were asking were crazy to me but obviously they were asking for a reason ast thetrucks hold their value.

I could get a used Ford anything for a song, but really don't think they're worth what people are asking either even though they're much more depreciated than most Tacoma's are.

So I ended up buying a new 2018 Tacoma because I couldn't get the second gen 4 the price I was willing to pay.

Awesome thing about Raptor owners is that they have the best of all worlds.

They get to drive the vehicle they love, it will hold its value well, and when eventually the economy slows and people stop spending 75k on the newest year Raptor, they will get to sell their used Raptor to someone looking for a bargain, and get to buy the new Raptor at a discount with dealerships trying to liquidate.

Every time a car manufacturer comes out with a special trim that is highly desirable there will eventually come a time when they push their luck too far and the people who are in the position to buy will get the deal of the century.

Same here. I wanted a gently used CPO 2016 or 2017 Taco with 30,000 miles or less. Once I started shopping I saw it made no sense to buy a CPO owned Taco. I paid less than two grand more on 1% financing and got a brand new truck.

Lol. I'll admit I'm an offroad owner who doesn't need it. I just wanted it because I thought it was badass.

Same here. 2016 for $31,500 for 16k miles with probably at least a 3.5% rate or 2017 for $33,500 for 44 miles with 1.9% rate. Or a 2015 with 57k miles for $29,000? Nope.

I have no regrets getting what I want considering only having 1 brand new vehicle before this 17 years ago (still have it too). I plan to keep this for 10 years at least. Savings be damned on an sr5 lol.

This forum has been great to check out Tacoma Quirks and the like, and like this thread discussing the competition. Do I miss my V8 in sheer grunt, yes and yet not the reason I bought the Tacoma, though I do miss the Lazy Boy sized armrest. I love my Tacoma, very happy with it and it just blows away my former rides as a smart sized Off-Road Beast. Could I have bought a SR5 and been happy, sure...NOT as happy as I am with the Off-Road. Living where I do I have plenty of opportunity to use my 4x4, and have already run through all the 4x4 tech with no issues.

Word is that the new Ranger is gonna be a 2 year deal then a refresh. American Ranger Raptor probably won’t come around for another 3- 4 years.

I used to work in crash safety at Ford on the truck team. The Ranger Raptor was scratched from US market because the development costs to get the Ranger platform compliant with US crash and emission regulations cost a lot more than originally planned for. There wasn’t going to be enough $ left in the program to also develop an additional engine/configuration for US regulations. They nixed it pretty early on. The Ranger Raptor development cost was an estimated $160M, and the projected sales wouldn’t justify it.

Hard to believe the projected sales wouldn’t justify it as the full size Raptor averages 20 days on dealer lots. Demand is beyond there for a mini Raptor... here we are on a Tacoma website 20 pages in talking about Ford Rangers.
