I'm studying for my HAM license, but I dont know why. There isnt a test anywhere near me.

Might have to travel a bit. I did about 40 minutes for mine. There's one in Georgetown

 

4 hours to the closest one that I can go to.

 

Just because time constraints and scheduling? Tons in Maryland and De within 2 hours according to a general goggle map search. Not sure if you got other factors going on though

 

Yea time is a huge factor, but none of them are within 2 hours.

Where are you seeing the exam listing. I searched ARRL at theres none listed for there.

 

There are a few agencies that test ARRL is a popular one. So isn't this one. And it's much faster on turn around time. Here ya go !

Maybe. Havent really put out any feelers. I'm just interested because... well I dont really have a good reason.

 

No reason needed. They're neat. I got a group of guys I just chat with on the way home from work in the morning. Occasionally traffic crap comes up too. Obvious they kick ass when wheeling. On highway with a repeater I can cover about 70miles. My handheld is worldwide. It's a good time.

I ask because the testing guys are really cool. I think Laurel only needs 3 people to set up a testing time. So if you can get a couple more people, you or I could shoot them an email and see if they could set something up.

My newest adventure is SOTA which is summits on the air. Basically a contest like deal where you hike mtns with small portable radios and try to make contacts from the peak. More points for difficult mountains and new mountains.

I am. I want a light snow winter . I'd like to go do North woods Maine with a dusting of snow on the tracks

 

I live on an island that gets a constant 15-30 mph wind in the winter. Its exhausting.

 

That sounds miserable
