I'm not going to defend the stupid and kids are a whole different story. This should have been de-escalated from the beginning and BOTH are at fault.

I guess you didn't read my first line...

Just an R44 RII. I was doing a traffic survey for the DOT. Had to hover at 5000 AGL in a 500ft ring for three hours. Always lots of fun.

Brave man flying those things. :hattip:

I don't fly anymore, but still prefer a turbine as my source of power...

    Haha they're not that bad

Hoping the Army will grant me some waivers and accept a Warrant Officer application. If not I'll try the border patrol or DPS.

I think they're short pilots, but I'm not in the loop anymore.

You can always look at the reserves or NG.

    Even USCG

CG wants a bachelor's and I used my GI Bill for flight school and got an associate's out of it. I don't make the cash to pay for college and I'm not exactly chomping at the bit to accrue more debt for a degree I likely won't make use of. The CG treats their pilots really well from what I hear, not sure if they're facing a shortage. I'd jump on it if they'd waive the college portion.

The NG wants me to join enlisted in an air wing and "after a few years" I could submit a warrant application, maybe get it, maybe not. Not too appealing. I'd prefer active anyway.

The Army, on the other hand, seems to be losing pilots left and right to the airlines. Quality of life in the Army and Coast Guard sounds like it's night and day different though.

I looked up the shot they carry at work, and yep, it’s for 60+.

My doc’s NP seems to think my immune system is plenty strong enough and that my chances of getting shingles are actually quite low. Missus America is washing her clothes separately, we are showering in different bathrooms (just to keep anything off the towels) and even more hand washing. Apparently that is the best preventative (besides a vaccine).

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
No... But they can give you a dose of one of these... Won't prevent it, but will lessen it greatly if you do...

    Antiviral Medications
These medicines may slow down the progress of the shingles rash, especially if you take them within the first 72 hours of having symptoms.

They can also lower your chance of having complications. Your doctor may prescribe:

The wife is on valtrex now. My doc won’t give me anything as a preventative because I’m not sick. They are using math and statistics to counter my worry and now I am confused. They’re not worried about our son at all. They’d rather not medicate if they don’t have to because the effects would likely be worse than the benefits considering my current health. Meh to all that - I just don’t want to get shingles, dammit!

Meanwhile, back at the America house, Missus America is ready to scratch herself with a thatching rake. Pain is migrating to itching, so...an improvement?

There are 2 different vaccines, one for 50-year olds and one for over 60. His source only has the latter. He could go to a pharmacy and get the other for $20 or so

Well I'm not looking to rush the next 4 years just so I can get a damn shot. Guess I can wait. I dont stress about much, I prefer the "Zero fucks given" life anyhow.

I developed shingles a few years back and they started as I started a 17 hour drive to go to a week long intensive training class. Started as a maddening itch, then got very painful, then blisters and even more itching. As I was in training, and 17 hours from home, I didn't get to the doc until I got home the Monday after (so total of 10 days). Doc said... "it's almost over now... nothing I can do". Then he told me you ever feel that itch again, come see me and we'll get you on Valtrex asap. Few years later... My back started to itch, when to see him, valtrex worked great!
