Did I say that? I said 99% of your problems stem from the user.

Which brings me to my next point: I'd say the vast majority of users are better off not being able to install programs or change lots of settings. This is why Macs are so popular among general users because there's very little to screw with compared to a Windows machine. Less software available, less settings available to change.

I do it all, from desktops to servers to HPC to cloud stuff and 99% of the time it's the user.

i have no problem admitting some user error. i never defragmented, and rarely ran spyware stuff and downloaded all kinds of stuff i probably shouldn't have. but my point is the mac is way more forgiving of that kind of behavior. it defragments as you go and so far no real need for spyware/virus protection (although i know thats changing as they become more popular)

Fragmentation is not really an issue with NTFS/HFS-Plus/ext3 or ext4. It only becomes an issue if you are constantly filling the drive or doing tons of I/O which would fill or empty it.

So I'm taking your response as: "Less options require less maintenance for me, so in turn I can do less but that's fine since I don't have a need". This is pretty much how I feel about many users. They really don't need all these options and thus are better off not being able to change them.

I always said I would never go to a high school class reunion. Because why would I want to be around those idiots that I avoid at Walmart when I see them???? My wife talked me into it and plus some close friends were going so I gave in and went. It wasn't that bad and I saw some old classmates that I liked and had not seen in 27 years. My wife introduced me to some (girl) friends that she went to school with and they were hot which made it even better.

your assumption about me is correct. i am far from a computer guy. i need to be able to surf the net, listen to music, watch video, update my resume and send emails. i'm sure if i were a hardcore computer dude i'd care about apples proprietary shit but as it is i'd rather have speed and stability over customization. but as much as i love my macbook, i dont see myself ever getting an iphone. i prefer androids OS and i actually like being able 100% customize my phone. so i can see how someone who actually cares about their computer and what it can do would shy away from apple.
