I had/have the same experience. I bough my camper shell used and it is darker than my truck. I went to a body shop to get by flares painted and look into doing the cap same color. He told and showed me that Toyota has several sub codes to 3R3 (Barcelona Red Metallic) color.

according to body shop, Toyota does it based on climate/region it intends to ship the vehicle.

my though is how does Toyota know what dealership is ordering a BRM taco and what region its gonna be in? and does it really matter if red is in a hot climate vs cold for the shade of color?

I knew there were different shades, everyone kept telling me they were the same. Thanks for clarifying that.

Are those aftermarket fender flares or did you paint/plastidip the OEM ones?

The base model had black plastic flares. The SR5's and up have the ugly color matched ones. I personally like the black ones better!

Ah yeah. I'm thinking of plasti-dipping mine as a cheap alternative..

In June, I bought a 2013 PreRunner. Had chrome rear bumper, chrome grille, black mirrors, and black door handles.

Earlier this month, I made the decision to trade it in for my current 2011 Toyota Tacoma Sport. Color matched everything. 4x4.

Can't get over how pretty she looks.
