Tips and Tricks on the 3rd Gen Tacoma

I believe the answer is no, it will still run. I heard my friends Mom got out of her car at the casino, she doesn't hear very well. Came out 3 hours later with it still running. This was a Jeep Cherokee. They only figured it out, because it was very hot outside and the car was nice and cool with the AC running. She locked it from the outside and everything. Someone should know how it works on the Tacoma however.

 

Ah okay, anyone else know?

Mine won't start with the keyfob far away, I'm not sure if it's smart enough to recognize it not running. Just something to pay attention too, I guess.

 

Is this something the dealer needs to do or can I do it myself with the truck settings?

 

It will keep running. They say it's a safety feature in case the key battery dies while you are driving. I'd prefer if it didn't allow you to shift out of park if the key isn't present. You also can't use the fob to lock/unlock the doors while it's running.

 

You can do it if you have techstream, or the dealer can do it also. I think you can also do it through carista.

 

Yep, dealer or some other external programmer. It can not be changed from the multi-media system or the multi-information display settings.

 

Yup, I always get out of my truck with it running and lock it if I have to run back into the house for something I forgot. It starts beeping like crazy at you because it doesn't detect the fob. However, the big danger of doing this is if you don't lock it, someone could easily steal it and drive off.

See my answer above and yes, the truck isn't designed to start unless the fob is inside the cab. There are ways to get around that, but it's a pain unless you have the remote starters that have an actual viable use in the snowy areas.

 

Just got my first Tacoma in September. On those cold winter Saturday mornings, I like to leave the truck running when I run in to get bagels and coffee, locking the door with the fob. Can I do that with this truck?

 

As long as you're outside the truck, you should be able to lock the doors with the fob while the engine is running.

EDIT: My apologies, I'm pretty sure I got this to work at one point but now cannot seem to replicate. Seems you cannot use the fob to lock the truck if the engine is running.

 

Does not work for me. I have to use the key to lock and unlock if truck is running.

 

It likewise did not work for me either. Maybe there's a setting?

 

Got the TSB done for tranny gear hunting issue. Honestly, I didn’t really think it was that bad, till I had it done. What a difference!. The pedal now reacts when you push down on it. I actually burned out a couple times. Was not expecting that big of a difference.GET IT DONE.

Try using the inside lock switch on the door...!!

 

I just got my truck from the dealer yesterday, how can I be sure all the TSB’s were done?

 

If you're referring to TSB 58-18 or 62-18, find a code reader that will read your ECU calibration ID.

 

Essentially I’m worried about any TSB’s, the dealership I got mine from gave me far too much for my trade in so their logic is confusing to me. So I want to ensure everything was done lol

 

I think there is a sticker under the hood that they put on.i have not checked yet, just feel it.

 

I am in the same boat. How do I find out if my 18 TRD off road has had the TSB for gear hunting performed? Was it something that had been fixed prior to the 2018 year?
