Just got back from Death Valley, doing camping the old fashion way with a ground tent. The tent is not set up yet in the pic, but we made it to the campsite with just enough sunlight left!

I’ll do a write up this weekend about it in the Death Valley thread, but we went out to the campsite by the racetrack for the first night, temps got down to around 50 at the 3000-whatever feet that was at. Went up to Telescope Peak the next day, was chilly enough that I put my sweatshirt on for the hike back. Camped at Panamint Springs that night, rocky campsight but was warmer with lows in the 60’s. Still getting hot out in the valley floor during the day, I would stick to mountain trails for day hikes and sleep around 2000-4000 feet, and probably colder than most would like to camp up at the sites at 8000+ feet, but your best bet is to check the weather page. There is one with a map of the park that updates the current temps. Drove through the south pass into saline valley on the last day. Was all good. The page with road outages is up to date from what I saw but I didn’t go everywhere in the park. I think maybe that one road in the NE part of the map had an outage that wasn’t clearly reported on the page though.

    Have fun!

Middle of nowhere, Washington. Still had plenty of bugs and wasps, but the campfire took care of that .

Made a short video of the area if interested, including a setup of the the rooftop tent with a puppy.

The hammock is on a Byer of Maine hammock stand. They make several types. Wide enough for a 12-foot hammock. This one is 11 feet. The longer the more comfortable. Do Not even bother with an Eno or any other gateway hammock. They are 9 foot or less. Try dreamhammock.com. Buy once, cry once.

This was my first trip there but we did make our way up to Saline Valley and to the warm springs filled with naked old men.

Shit, I'd jump off a bridge if I saw a bear coming towards me too.
