TSS delete

Has anyone successfully removed the TSS system in the 2018s+ yet. My wife said this system almost got my whole family killed and we have only had the truck for about 30hrs. She said that all of a sudden going 45 it slammed on the breaks and a semi swerved into the other lane missing her by mere inches. What if I where to put in a 2016 17 computer in the truck and pull all of this dangerous garbage off? I know it can be disabled but I really dont want a suicidal option on my new truck......had no idea this was even on this pos as the dealer is scheduled to show us the "new tech" Monday. They are going to get this truck through the front door if they cant fix it

 

Wow. That’s some scary stuff right there. Wish I could be of help. I’d take it to them on Monday and demand it be fixed. Not sure how to prove it’s fixed though. That’s the problem...

 

surprised that happened, had many people cut me off on the freeway and truck never "slammed" brakes once. You can simply disable all TSS features through the steering wheel menu, shouldn't be a problem.

 

Ive never had this issue either ..... Had it say "brake" before but other than that no issues . Glad they're ok though Keep us posted .

Two things:
1. Severe malfunction. If so, park it and tow it to dealer.
2. It worked as advertised and you guys don't understand what happened.

 

The TSS actually applied the brakes? I did not know it did this. I thought it just beeped, and had dash warning lights.

I'm pretty sure someone described that 3 inch minnow as a 24 foot whale shark....

 

Trade the truck in and get a 2016-2017 model. Glad no one was injured in whatever happened in your vehicle. TSS-P works well enough that it has been extended into the 2019 model years. The only time my Pre-collision sensor has gone off, was when I was indeed coming in too hot on a vehicle that was stopped in front of me. Did not apply brakes, just screamed "BRAKE!" at me. I'm thinking there may be more details to the entire incident, but I am in no position to say. Nonetheless, OP hope you get your TSS checked out at the dealer or trade it down for a 16-17.

 

I had a similar thing happen. Two lane highway at 60mph. Car in front of me had blinker on for a right turn and I could see ahead that there was a right turn lane that they were headed for. Knowing that they would be turning into the turning lane, and subconsciously judging distance to the turning lane, I didn't slow down. Because I didn't need to. Because I knew the vehicle ahead was gonna be out of my way by the time I got there.

Since the other vehicle was slowing down and I was approaching at 60mph with cruise control on, suddenly my truck "hit the brakes" (TSS). Hard. I didn't expect it. Wouldn't have been a big deal, but there was a pickup behind me. They didn't expect it either. And they laid on their horn and swerved around me into the oncoming lane to avoid rear ending me. Fortunately there wasn't another vehicle in the oncoming lane.

Moral of the story? Me and the truck behind me were probably too close to the respective vehicles in front of us. But because our minds were "in the real world", there really wasn't a problem. It was a pretty typical every day scenario.

But then the "smart tacoma" did something nobody was expecting and we almost had a disaster. Will this happen again with ME? Probably not, because now I know how the "smart system" works. But will the vehicle behind me be as quick?

What I experienced didn't leave me feeling like this was a good thing. I can only conclude that the "numbers don't lie" and it's better to have this stuff than not have it. But I'm not quite sold on it yet.

 

I'm assuming she got spooked when the screen turned red beeped and then said brake and she braked. Mine goes off probs once a week from something, turning vehicle, sunlight, planet alignment, something. The brakes, I believe only activate at low speeds with the sensor, or with cruise, you can feel it apply braking force in stop and go driving. Have it checked out just to be safe, but I'd say panic braking.

 

Mine has never gone off.
If it does malfunction I'll call the dealership!

Advanced safety features make for worse drivers and the numbers every year have shown this, it’s a self fulfilling prophecy.

TSS and Safety features and more tech gadgets leads to distracted driving which has created worse drivers on the road. It also allows reckless drivers on the road and attempts to make up for it with safety features.

 

Read and understand the owners manual, there is a learning curve. This system is very sophisticated and takes getting used to. I’m on the fence whether I like it or not. Mine has been replaced under warranty already, but has worked as designed since. The sensor is in the Toyota logo on the front grill. It does not like to be obstructed by dirt,bugs,snow,direct sunlight. It will let you know when it is not happy.

 

I hope my 16 doesn't have that shit. Don't let people ride close, find a way to get rid of them safely, I pull over and let them pass, it's hard enough to avoid the deer that jumps in front of you and not have someone kill you from behind.

 

I have considered going Amish to avoid all this tech crap.

 

You didn't know the truck had tss when you bought it? That's half on the dealer for not explaining featured, but half on you to know what you're buying. I don't think it will apply the brakes unless both the camera and radar detector an imminent impact.

 

This is a good point considering its one of the major changes for the 2018 MY Tacomas. I know when I bought my Tacoma, there was literature all over the dealership advertising TSS-P on the Tacomas.
