I think she is ultimately agreeable to it, she knows I really want to (also supercharger). However, she does want to make sure it's otherwise reliable and I can't really fault her on that point. So just need to wait a year or so, plus in the meantime, I can get everything else taken care of.

Right now, that's probably too much. In a year or two, probably the right price. I'm not in the big of a rush and keeping the wife happy ensure I lead a happy day to day life.

Reliability is definitely something you don't need to worry about.

I bought a 1998 5-Lug SR5 v6 that was used and abused its whole life. It has about 450,000 miles and it runs like a dream. Lots of other members on here have met or exceeded that mileage too.

He had this great idea to buy a bare 1996 4WD frame and build a truck from it.

    Ask me how I know.

Right, I have no worries. I did the 2JZGTE swap on the lexus when the OE engine had around 400k miles (and still worked like a dream) my FJ Cruiser got to 480(ish), and my stepdads LS had 680k when he finally sold it. However, my wife doesn't hold the same unshaken beliefs (she has previously owned Ford and GM products so that experience is probably justified lol), and wants to make sure before tinkering. I'm not in a huge rush and this way I can research it a bit more and make sure.

Definitely, research is the best thing you can do. I converted my truck with my prior knowledge being changing brake pads, I made a lot of mistakes and I paid dearly.

She also really wants the ADD hubs, I made the mistake of explaining the potential options so think I need to figure that out now :frusty:

Oof, ADD is a little more involved. Doable, but most people do Manual Hubs. With Manual Hubs it's 100% plug-n-play. ADD requires some wiring and/or messing with vacuum lines and valves.

Nothing. It's just more work to do a conversion than manual hubs.

Nothing, just sounds like a fuck ton more work to implement doing the prerunner to 4x4 swap.

It's not that bad to do, you just have to start worrying about other things installation wise. ADD is in fact better, stronger CV's and that factor of convenience.

Yeah I want to stay away from vacuum lines so would want to do the electric hub version but still not looking forward to it.

Newer Tacomas used electronic ADD actuators, older ones were vacuum actuated. Depends on which differential you get your hands on.

    There's also J-Shift versus Pushbutton 4WD.

    Good idea.

Honestly, if I were to do it again - I'd go for ADD. Just so much more convenient.

Hell I'm talking out of my ass here, I've never been off-road before. I converted it to 4WD for shits and giggles.
