Why do you think the cop would even care what shift knob you have?

Guy who has a beer tap for a shift knob obviously loves drinking. He very well may look harder at you whether or not you have been drinking.

I find it so amusing how these OP's try so hard to come up with new and innovative threads which are useless and this is what they get in return. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the cop is more than likely going to think you are a dumbass before thinking you are a drunk. LOL!

First time I’m in agreement with you. Shocking.

The thing is in poor taste. Belongs on a domestic pickup.

Are beer taps illegal or something?

Have an officer give you a drunk test over a shift knob and see how much money you get paid for your lawsuit settlement.

Of course not. But the first few seconds of an encounter set the tone. And that’s a poor impression, depending on what sort of outcome a person wants.

The encounter has already occurred, that’s why someone got pulled over in the first place.

If you were being an idiot, you’re the idiot before they step out of their vehicle. If you’re doing 7 MPH over the limit but otherwise driving with intent, straight down the highway, you’re not getting assumed to be anything but unaware.

Beer handle shift knob doesn’t change that, a weapon or drug paraphernalia would. A handgun shift knob would be a poor choice, without question. But this? If anything it’s poor taste, but to think it’s going to get someone who isn’t a trashy scumbag treated like one is silly internet lore or some kind of odd paranoia.

I see it through the lens of both the officer and the scummer. You’re right, the outcome is probably set, regardless of what is attached to my shifter. But if I were the cop, as soon as I saw it, I’d be like “yuh huh. Here we go.” And if I were the guy driving... like, say someone I know needed me to drive their k swapped Honda Civic back from the bar (obviously) or giant turd of a domestic diesel with some witty “Cummins-swap” sticker on the back and I got pulled over...as soon as I realized I’d have to have a conversation with a police officer while having some giant cock of a shift knob all up in my face, I’d be pretty embarrassed. I guess that’s how I see it. It’s like getting caught being an idiot.

No disagreement in poor choice of knobs.. but by the same logic, driving a car with a turbo and exhaust means you’re a street racing punk.

Depends on the officer and what you were doing to attract his attention, but one doesn’t make you the other, IMO. Certainly in the eyes of the legal system.
