My cruise control seems to maintain a full two second following distance and will maintain that no matter what it has to do. I like it myself and can just set it and not worry to much about it, just let it do it’s job. I have tested it by having it set at 72mph and follow another vehicle off an off ramp and it will maintain that distance all way down to 32 or so miles an hour without touching my brake myself.

I did have a vehicle ease over into my lane when they were entering the 2 lane road I was on, it sensed a head on collision and locked the truck up for a min. Like the OP described I wasn’t expecting that and could see what the car was doing and wouldn’t of braked Myself as there was no need to.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
I wish my 17 had the "system". Our 15 Subaru outback has the "stuff" on it and we love it. When I bought my 17 -- my 02 F150 had to go, and I decided to not wait for the 18's. Our insurance rates went down coming from a 08 CRV to the Outback--even surprised our agent!

These trucks apply the brakes for you IF you have on cruise control and you are getting to close to someone or someone whips in front of you. It will slam the brakes if it senses something come ito it’s line of sight at a way slower pace than you currently have the cruise control set to. The system either has been “learning” from the day I picked up my truck or I have adapted to it as I no longer have issues like those mentioned by the OP. In the first week of ownership my truck did this same thing to me at least 3 times, every time was with the cruise control on...

My Tacoma was only 10 dollars per 6 months more to insure than my 14 Fiesta.

The tacoma system doesn't work the best. I had a 2012 Volvo s60 t6 polestar with all the same features and they were far less intrusive than the tss even at full ham all around. The toyo is more gimmick than save your ass

If it malfunctioned as you say, Toyota will review your black box. If it's determined it was faulty, they will replace your truck. I read another member had the same issue. It's not common. I've driven 3 years with my wife's rav4 with the same technology and now almost one year on my truck, never done that. Like I mentioned, the dealership can review your black box and watch the video.

I've had the auto brights flash oncoming traffic, the cruise control brake checked when I went under a bridge with a train on it, and got a brake now warning when driving past a car on the side of the road. It's not a perfect system, but it's major faults lie with how it affects the traffic around me. I would like to be able to use the systems for their convenience, but I don't really trust them yet

Lol sorry. I never knew “black box” systems took video. And I always thought it only provided data from immediate history, such as an accident that just happened. Toyota can pull the data from any given moment the vehicle was driven?

I can't imagine it has a hard drive large enough to store everything. I assume it stores whenever there is an alert or braking situation like the op suggested. However I do not know for sure.

there has to be a way to delete this, I would like to have someone who knows wiring to see how it's all wired up to see if a 2017 PCm would work in a 2018.
