90915-YZZD4 Oil Filter

I just happened to notice that the oil filter on my 2012 Tacoma V6 is not the

$55 90915-YZZD3 Oil Filter 1 Case (QTY 10)

90915-YZZD3, as l expected it would be..It's a 90915-YZZD4!!!
I've tried doing numerous searchs online, but they all say that the YZZD4 filter does not fit my engine. But there it is. It appears to be the same physical size. Wondering if anyone else has come across this?

I was trying to figure out how a filter that isn't supposed to fit my truck, is on my truck.??
Everything I'm reading says thst it shouldn't fit.

 

I know that this will throw a wrench into things, and l should have stated it in my original question.
l live in Costa Rica and the truck was manufactured in Mexico. But everything that l have been able to find, is that the engine uses the same oil filter as the U.S. sold Tacoma's. I was wondering if anyone had experienced this before. I have asked the service people, and they just say that that's what they use. Which is contrary to what l have read. Asking them further just gets everyone frustrated here.
Like l said. Thought i'd ask enthusiasts instead as you all have much more of an interest in the details.

 

A little off topic. If your looking for a taller filter. Any filter for 95 Ford Taurus V6 will fit.

 

how many miles have u driven since you've found out the filter isn't the right one? and nothings happened. My trucks engine takes a YZZD1 but I run the YZZD3(bigger) for thousands of miles on them in fact Ive used a full case of YZZD3 filters on this truck and I sleep like a baby not worrying about it, if theres an issue due to having a different filter other than recommended by the manufacturer than the liability falls directly on the Dealership that says its all right.

 

Thanks!!!! I've got the room so the bigger filter the better, the better for the engine l think. Can't hurt anyway. Are you using a bigger fikter? If you are, which one? Always good to hear other people's positive results l think.

 

I just noticed.. The number was on the back side of the filter. I happened to be under the hood and noticed the '4' instead of the '3' in the filet part number.
I've driven about 6,000kms. (about 3,700 miles). No issues thst l can tell. But l don't want this to continue if l don't have to, or shouldn't.

 

Using oe D3. Bigger isn’t always better. Your not going to extend the life of the engine with a bigger filter.

 

Even bigger is the filter from a 95 Ford 5.0 V8 (F150, Bronco, Mustang). This is the largest practical filter that will fit. It's the size I'm running. But, remember to add about half a quart more oil when changing the oil. And make sure the filter has an anti-drain valve, which most in the US have, but don't know about Costa Rica.

I was thinking that a bigger filter would allow a little more oil capacity, and maybe keep it a bit cooler as well as be good filtration.

I was still wondering if anyone has located any specs on the YZZD4 filter. If it's the same as the YZZD3 filter, then I'm happy. But I'm still wondering why it's not specified for my truck, but it was out in it. If there's different internal specs etc... I'm lpoking, but can't find anything.

 

A half a qrt isn’t a big difference.

 

Hey you are in Costa Rica, if that is what normally use there don't worry about it.
