Typical chaotic Monday.

Left early, swung into Worcester, then to Springfield, and now, they're trying to pull me and send me to Windsor....

Otherwise, thanks to @micwillia for the drop-off last night on his way home.

 

Looks good, but why take the cap off in winter? Do you throw a sander on the back or something, or does it help prevent damage? I had a cap on my old truck and never took it off, so wondering if there is something I'm not aware of.

 

Couple of reasons, really. I left the cap on the F150 all last winter, but every time I drove it in a snow storm the back window/hatch would collect an incredible amount of snow because of the rounded shape of the tailgate making a shelf for it to collect on. The Ram has the same tailgate shape so I'm sure it'd have the same problem, and since I'll be plowing with the Ram I don't want to have to stop and clean off the rear window all the time. Plus the visibility is just better with it off, whether it's snowing or not.
I also didn't want to have to deal with taking it on/off when it's below freezing out. It sucks bad enough to do it when it's warm out because it's so heavy, let alone doing it on slippery snow or ice. The trifold tonneau is more flexible; I can keep it folded out when I want to put stuff in the bed that needs to stay dry, or fold it back out of the way if I'm hauling something tall.
3rd reason is that I'm not nearly tall enough to clean the top of the cap off if I'm parked outside when it snows

And the 4th is that I like how it looks better with the tonneau than with the cap, but I didn't want to take the cap on & off all summer every time we went camping, so I just left it on. Now that we're past camping season, off she goes!

Ww had already made up a 14" slip fit square tube shaft for it. Dom has a 1st gem T4R he did this to like 2 years ago

 

GF and I camped last weekend. It was...brisk in the morning. Below freezing, heavy frost. We were comfortable in the sleeping bag, but getting the GF out of the sleeping bag was a challenge. I had to have a fire going and coffee brewed & ready before she'd get up, and she declared in no uncertain terms that we were officially done for the season.

 

Yes, down here in NY we're frozen.

Frost everywhere this morning.

Now going back to hang out with my NY peeps.

I camped last weekend as well. It was chilly, but not real bad. I'd rather have chilly than hot and sticky.

 

Oh I use the shit out of my RTT and have a 4 season sleeping bag . The only suck part is going out for a leak. Haha

 

Guess I'll find out this winter... when we going camping again? I need to pinstripe more of the truck....

 

Kind of want to go cut my own Christmas tree....

But we can sneak in a trip before that

 

I don't know what the official definition is, but I'd call anything north of Hudson Valley upstate.

 

Yea I mean I've been to the Catskills, played hockey in Albany more times than I want to think about, lacrosse tournaments at Lake George, done work in Buffalo and Niagara Falls. If you really want to talk about upstate, Potsdam, NY is upstate for sure. Use to have to go to Potsdam Specialty Paper Inc up there
