I was thinking about buying some shit in oil companies. I feel like depending on what happens with Saudi the next couple of weeks it might shoot up. But I honestly have no idea what I’m talking about either haha.

I use robinhood to trade, its easy to navigate.

All you need to know is the stock name that the company goes by(which you can just google) then you put that it and select how many shares you want.

If you're actually curious I can ask both my Grandfather who's been living off his shares of a few companies for the past 12 years or so and my Dad who's a relatively new investor but only invests in big stuff like Apple, Facebook, and Netflix

I’d like to say I’m actually curious but I really have no idea what I’m talking about. I think it’d be a good thing to learn up on, I’m sure google can be pretty helpful with general info.

Just start a Roth savings account and add to it every month. You will automatically be invested in stocks and other investments. Start one now and you will be in good shape at retirement.

Same although admittedly how you go about all of this has changed since I was in school and that wasn't all that long ago

On that venue, I'd like to tell Suze Olman to pound sand. She says that retirees need 5 million to retire. Fuck that!

That number is reasonable for Bart's neighborhood, but Midwest and south east living is much cheaper than that left coast fuckery!

Going to have to do some searching here but had that very elusive issue rough idle/cuts out crop up last night. Came home, parked the truck and shut off the engine. Immediately noticed my parking job was shit so started it up to re-park. Engine would start and immediately die. Fluttering the gas a little, it wants to run but is very rough then cuts out again. After several attempts, able to get it to rough idle then it smooths out and everything is fine.

I know its been reported before, just have to find it to see if any new progress has been made tracking down the cause.

This issue is so intermittent it really isn't reproducible until it happens. :frusty:

    Any ideas?

EDIT: MAF clean, fuel filter had been replaced. Still need to do plugs and wires but doubt thats it. Throttle body could probably use a good clean (hasn't been done).

You can make a ton of money, or loose a ton of money if you're dumb. A LOT of people get screwed because the market takes a dive so they sell off and loose a bunch.

Take 2009. Tons of people freaked and sold before they lost all of it, and lost a TON of money. But if they would have just left everything alone (unless they had all their investments tied up in Lehman Brothers, lol), they'd have MORE money now that before the crash.

    Take a look at this.

Mainly, the people who got screwed were the ones who tied all their retirement cash to this market. If you were set to retire on this and then the market crashes, yeah, you got screwed. Well, sort of. Look at the S&P in the above chart. It came back up to, and exceeded the pre-crash levels within a couple years. So wort case is you delay retiring for a couple years.

So, when you're young, you should invest more heavily in the more volatile markets that have higher returns but higher risk. Most people would be able to survive that risk because they don't NEED that money right now. Leave it alone, let the market recover (as it has), then, as you get closer to retirement age, start switching to mutual funds etc... that have much lower returns, but are more stable.

That said, I really don't do any of my own investments besides what is in my retirement accounts, and all I do is tell my employer (very broadly) what types of investments I want to focus on). What you should be doing is worrying about reducing your debt (pay off your house, etc...), then you'll have a lower overhead so you don't need to have massive bundles of cash on hand to retire with.
