I have a new inferno TRD offroad and Ive noticed that the paint seems to chip super easy.

There are a few chips already on the truck, one of them was from when my can of wax tapped the bumper (literally tapped)

Anyone know if the paint on these things is just bad, or is something wrong with mine.

Mine certainly is. The paint is SUPER thin, and seems to chip very easily.

No more or less than any other manufacturer. It also has nothing to do with "thin" and everything to do with hardness and adhesion.

Haven't noticed anything on mine in 6 months. Hope it's not an issue...

I have an inferno and noticed some chips too (bought spring of 2017). The paint pen from Toyota works pretty well.

Edit: one chip on the hood, and one along the drivers door down near the bottom right along the edge.

In 23K miles my black paint has all kinds of little chips and scratches in it. To be fair I am not very nice to it. Most of the imperfections I think I deserve but there are a couple weird ones that I just can't figure out. It doesn't bother me a lot but I can't help but feel a white/silver truck would have held up a lot better.

The only really chip I have is some clown dinged my paint on the driver door a bit with one of their doors im sure. Other than that, a good clay bar and my truck is spotless. Two years, all shotty freeway driving :D

Keep touch up paint, polish, an a micro fiber towel in your truck that’s what I do. I actively look for chips every time I was my truck and get them touched up ASAP.

Yup, the paint sucks. Super soft and or thin. Scratches, dings, chips and absorbs metal particulate like no other car I’ve had. At least my quicksand does. Maybe get a ceramic coat put on? Wash/wax regularly.

Ceramic coating applied and I still get quite a bit of chips. In 15 my truck will be more touch up paint then original lol. That’s my only complaint about the Tacoma it’s the thin paint

Yeah, I don’t have many complaints either. Overall quite happy with my truck but the paint seems pretty weak.

OK so its not that I got a bad batch, allot of people seem to have the same issue.

Ill swing by the dealer this weekend and grab some touch up paint.

You can blame the government if you want but something tells me if you bought a brand new Bimmer, Benz or even a Jeep. The paint wouldn’t suck this bad.

The silver has held up superbly over 2 years... I have a couple of minor scratches but the Toyota pen and some occasional polish/wax keep the truck looking good. Every couple of weeks someone seriously asks me if my truck is brand new... and I’ve put 36k hard miles on it

+1 at 25,000 miles, city and highway. Minimal off road.

I have cement with about 2500 miles on it. Got two good chips already. The paint chips right to metal, especially the hood. You brush against the truck and instantly pinstripes it. I stuffed my Jk down tons of trails and after 2 years the paint held up better than this truck has so far in 2 months from just city driving. So yeah, it's Toyota's paint that sucks

Probably not...if it was painted in Germany.
