What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

just removed my power steering reservoir to clean the screen, you can only see two dots of light the size of pin heads..

 

What prompted you to check and clean the screen? Just curious because my PS squeals sometimes even after new fluid but I haven't checked or cleaned the screen yet, thinking I should

 

Cause the fluid was pretty much black, and it would squeal a tiny bit.. I’d bet the fluid had never been changed before now (179k) It can definitely restrict the flow.

Edit: also happened to watch Timmy the Toolman and got inspired lol.. Make sure you get a new oring before you do it imo.

I used a mixture of both videos, I did the easy flush then I pulled the reservoir and cleaned the screen..

 

New Akebono ceramic pads and brembo blank rotors along with some paint.

 

Leaking valve cover gaskets might just need new rubber washers and torqued again instead of replacing all the gaskets.
My gaskets were replaced 100,000 miles ago, 3 years ago now leaking again.
The rubber washers are trashed and probably the reason why they are leaking.

 

Wow. That's a lot of miles in just 3 years.

 

lol you should see mine. I take pride in keeping my truck pretty damn clean most of the time despite the dirt it sees pretty regularly, but the vents are always caked in it. Too much effort to clean those out when they get dirty again so easily as soon as you put a tire on dirt.

 

Well the vents pull in air from outside, even if you have recirculate on it's still going to pull in some outside air. And if you're spending all day (or multiple days) in the dirt, that stuff is going to work it's way in whether you want it to or not. Esp since we don't have cabin air filters

Should've seen the amount of dust that came out of the 5-Lug when I took my air compressor to it.

 

You wouldn't have dust because the Texas floodwaters cleaned it all off.

 

Trust me. when you drive a few thousand dirt miles a year. Your vents will be that dirty. Nothing you can really do about it.

Always fun to turn it on high and have a large cloud of dust blown right in your face haha

Mine look the same way after one weekend of playing. They get cleaned well, but it comes right back each trip.

I usually fire up the AC full blast once I hit the freeway after a weekend in the sticks. Its funny watching the wife's reaction

 

I wish our trucks had cabin air filters.

 

meh. Im over it. The dash could be used for soil samples from at least 5 states haha

 

I 'cleaned" out the vents this weekend with the CB install.
The dust was more like black grease butter...
