I have a huge problem when I am wrenching on cars. I tend to become very tunnel visioned and I forget anything else exists. I just get do focused on what I need to get done and I forget to take any pictures or test anything. I'll try to see what I can do, though I do know the UPR tensioner uses a 40lb spring. Stock may be some 5lb's less. Maybe, nothing huge like what all the previous comments and such spoke of from comparison of the two.

If I remember correctly I believe the Cobra uses a secondary serpentine system as well so they get all the dedicated stuff that we do.

Understood. I can be that way too.
A little stiffer I think would be perfect but if you as the pioneer of this case get some data it would be awesome!

You would think stiffer would not be better but I can still take my belt and "indent it" downward with my hand without tons of effort so I think the extra pressure could definitely be useful. :D

No you did not. Not yet. I do not want any group buys until I get some hard data and facts on this install. I want to know the ins and outs and what may or may not need modifications prior to mounting it on even if that includes shimming the tensioner out further for whatever reason. Too many variables to say group buy just yet. Though anyone is free and welcome to pick up any one of the tensioners listed if they'd like!

Oddly enough, there are other products made for our tensioners which would not work, but are meant to address strength issues on these tensioners. Metco released a strengthening brace for them long ago which you can still pick up, but due to the way our tensioner is oriented and requires a bracket to run it on our trucks we cannot run it due to physical interferences.

So there are known issues with these things, it's just issues that we were not aware of prior due to our community being a little more underground than Terminators and Lightning's.

Pretty good explanation of the problem and the case for a better tensioner here:

However, we don't suffer from bent brackets because what we have holding our tensioner base is pretty stout, so qe got lucky there. Unfortunately all the stress goes to the actual arm itself. I even read cases of a guy breaking the OE tensioner arm at the very end by the pulley because he didn't put the ratchet all the way in.

I believe it all at this point. Lol.

Steeda looks like a normal tensioner, just with a billet plate welded to the front of it.

Yeah that's exactly what it is. Which is why I recommend people go for the UPR or the other overly expensive option. To me if I'm going to pay over $150 for a tensioner I might as well go with the one which is a fully fabricated unit.

Yes, the UPR is only $30 more. Kind of a no-brainer.

I’m just trying to compare apples to apples here with the 1gr-fe. But yeah, obviously AC Delco makes them for many applications too. Yes, I agree boosted 4.6 and coyote mustangs definitely would have higher percentages of breaks based on the fact these base PD kits already start at 10 lbs boost. And pulling easily over 500rwhp. With that kind of power stronger made tensioners are a must especially for belt slippage.

You beat me to it. Lol. I was just about to post the top pic.

We will have zero problems with it.

The only thing that worried me was someone mentioned the Allen bolt holding the arm in place started backing out. (Back in 2015, but kinda recent) he stated UPR knew about it but who knows if they addressed it. He said he ended up using a bolt with a locking nut or something like that to stop it from backing out because nothing else was working. That is what worries me most right now. Otherwise he said it has been a great unit.

Roush looks similar to stock, but it's definitely beefier, look how much thicker the arm is.

That is true, but with that being said they are also running Whipples and M112's which do not require as much speed turning the rotors hence the blower pulley can be larger in order to produce that same 10 PSI that we need to step down large amounts of pulley diameters just to achieve. It's all pretty relative here.

Nice. I never looked too deeply into the Rousch. They did also say that the internal spring was heavier duty over the OE arm. Might be worth something to the guys who don't mind sporting the word Rousch. Or they can just grind the words off. Either way, either way.
