Why do Americans still use slotted screws ?

Call me old school but I rather enjoy them. Visually they are more appealing esp. with gun parts and door and cabinet hardware. With good hollow ground screwdrivers I get no slippage.

 

These are my favorite. Very easy to remove.

 

I'm a millennial, my "office" is a Kenworth W900L with a Eaton-Fuller 13 speed, lol. I think there's more millennials that can drive a stick than you might think! Gen Z on the other hand..

 

America still uses slotted screws so China has a place to dump all their POS flat blade screwdrivers

 

It was a general millennial joke, there are always exceptions to the rules. Other examples.

Old enough to know what that rotary phone is.

 

I am old enough to know what the Mayflower is but that doesn’t mean I was old enough to sail her. Rotary phones were something I used until I was almost a teenager. And you needed a slotted screwdriver to open one up to fix or to fix the 4 pronged plug that went into the wall.

 

My grandma still has her rotary and it's louder than a damned fire alarm.

 

4 prong plug? you youngun. My parents were fixed to their location. We had one very long curly cord to move around the olive green kitchen.

 

Actually the first phone I really remember was that rotary style. When the first install our phones it was a 6 party line. It rang in 5 other houses also. The other was the push button style of that phone.

 

Before we got that phone installed, we had a old army field crank phone. Had to bury the wire from one mobile home to the other. Similar to this pic

 

All of my houses had wheels parked next to the house not under it. This concept seems lost on me however when I was at a trade show in tornado alley no one could answer me why there were so many trailer parks there and why none of them were called the Darwin Estates.

 

I replaced some broken deck boards and used Robertsons. They SUCK!!! Had an animal die under there and in trying to get a board up to get it out, stripped half of them. Two trips to the hardware store to buy the tapping bits to back them out. I will NEVER use them again.

 

Did not live in tornado alley, but I get your point. It wasnt my decision to purchase as I was only 5. Its what my parents could afford with 5 kids though. It sat on a acre of land. 1/4 of it was a garden in the middle of the Nevada desert. I have seen roofs peel like tin cans in high winds. Watched them go up in flames and burn to the ground in 15 minutes. Siding ripped off, foundations washed away.
