Those guys are extortionists. I know they wanted that much because that's how much they told me back in the day for a 2.3 also. All the business I give them and they are still trying to screw us. I know a guy in the future who can make custom sized pullies for you for the record. Cheap too. Really friendly guy and he won't try to screw you like these guys did.

Now all you need is a bitcoin new all Billet high strength tensioner and your serpentine setup will really be bulletproof!

Haha. I’m surprised it hasn’t blown before now. Just living on the 2-inch edge over here.

That's because these engines can withstand a lot more abuse than we give them credit. :D

I'm like you tho... is it really worth all the hassle? I dont even know if I'm losing boost due to slippage. I would assume maybe a little.. but nothing has raised any eyebrows yet.

@rjbiii I've been meaning to post, I know you're thinking about putting in your 3+ clutch soon. Before I took the transmission off to replace the hydro bearing, there was an intermittent "vibration" or "pulsing" in the clutch pedal when it was partially pressed down. I didn't think much of it mostly because I was in denial about what it could be, because I didn't want to take the transmission off again.

Well, when I had the transmission off to replace the bearing, I went underneath to clean off the clutch fluid that had leaked onto the adapter plate. Fortunately there wasn't much and it didn't hit the mating surfaces of the disc, flywheel, or the pressure plate.

I was under there cleaning, and I thought - hmm. That looks like a gap between the pressure plate and the flywheel.

Well, I tried turning one of the bolts with a socket not attached to a ratchet... and it wasn't even finger tight! All six of the bolts were backing out. I'm surprised it held torque before it broke down!

So, my advice on the 3+ clutch is, install the pressure plate to flywheel bolts with locktite, and torque a little higher than spec. Mine are ARP bolts, so they can take a little extra torque. I chose 24ftlbs, arbitrarily. I know I torqued them properly when I put them in. I think. The torque spec was 15ftlbs if I remember correctly.

Whether or not the loose pressure plate contributed to the failure of the bearing is open to debate, but I think it's pretty likely.

It's a real possibility. I noticed an enormous difference when I went to a 69" Fleetrunner belt and did the Rip mod. Before those mods, boost dropped off after 3800rpm or so, from a peak of 13psi. At redline it was only 11psi. After those mods, boost stays level at 13psi all the way up!

I think it's @12TRDTacoma 's opinion that most people with stock and/or long and/or cheap belts are going to see at least a bit of slip.

That's awesome, might have to bug you later on that pulley..so far with a heavy foot it hasn't skip a groove yet. Yes those guys seemed to be, $800 is much on the steep side for a small chunk of nothing that fits in my change pocket. Would be interesting to see that tensioner produced.

It will be a matter of time, not when before one of us blows due to our greed for POWA!

I haven't been slipping yet.. I don't think, I'm holding a constant 11 lbs and peaking 13lbs with the 69.01". fleetrunner belt and rip/slotted pulley mod. Will install the belt wrap mod soon to confirm tho

    Damnnnn!

Thats definitely not good.. will make note of this for whenever i get around to installing my clutch. Did you put locktite on the bolts when you initially installed them?

I has not seen the belt skip on me either, with a 6-rib 2" pulley. The belts on my car will go inside out if they're too tight, but the design of the pulley system is quite a bit different.

I did not use locktite the first time.

I'm at a consistent 10lbs, if the conditions are right.. 11lbs. I did try experimenting with shorter belts a while back, and thats when my tensioners started snapping, so I havent revisited that since its all been fixed. I gained like half a pound I think with the shorter Gates belt I was running. Maybe I'll try again now that I have an even smaller pulley (2.6)

Yep. Running again. Shifting is a lot smoother (less notchy), clutch engagement is way more responsive.
