Recommended tire pressure

The placcard takes that into account and shows the cold inflation pressure.

 

maybe because u got 17" sport rims/tires mine are the 16" SR5 steels with p245/75/16 tires

 

2,154 lb(OEM load requirement) divided by 1.1(reduction factor) = 1,954 lb load requirement from LT tires
You apply the new load requirement to the LT load charts for your particular size.
P-metric and ISO-metric have an engineered safety factor when applied on suv and trucks. This additional safety factor is not required when LT tire are used.

My stock OR tires were about right at 30 cold, 33 heated up on the highway. Replaced with same size tires in Cooper AT3 4S and the sweet spot seems to be 32 cold; 35 heated up. More air if you have a lot of mods adding weight or carrying a load. When I'm REALLY loaded down for a camping trip with toys and gear, I'll generally add an extra 2 PSI for the trip

 

Guess I was reading this wrong, I've always been happy when tires were at recommended pressure at operating temperature ...guess I've been driving around with underinflated tires this whole time

So TPSM should only read 29 in the am before the truck is moved and then whatever number higher once the wheels warm up?

 

Comparing psi without context(eg: load rating, size, etc) means nothing...NOTHING.

Go back to post #34 and ask yourself what the "ends to the mean" are.

 

I run 35 psi on my '18 TRD OR DCSB. When I checked pressures last week, left front was 35 psi and the other three were 25 psi! Truck was two months old. Doubtful the dealer really checked pressures during pre-delivery inspection.

I always chalk tested my tires - draw a thick line of chalk across the tread; drive just a little bit of back and forth, and check to ensure that the chalk line has worn evenly. I try to find the lowest cold PSI that doesn't show indication of an under inflated pattern.

The ideal PSI to run can vary based on what size of tire, what rating, how much weight you're running, etc...

 

It should read cold, but if you are outside the sun will throw it off.

SL rated P-metric and ISO/ERTRO-metric tires top out with load capacity at 35-36 psi, regardless of the max psi listed on the sidewall.

I know this is an old thread but Im curious to know why you say it sucks.

 

when dealer aired my tires to 35 psi my mpg instantly was 2 mpg higher on the drive home, so now i have been using 35. it also feels a lot better than it did at 30.

 

Yeah I experienced the same thing. Just put a new set of Nitto terra grapplers on my truck. Americas tire had them aired up to 40 psi. It did in fact give me better gas millage but also made the truck no so pleasant to drive. So I took 2 pounds of air out of each tire and that felt a little better but not good enough. Eventually I worked my way right back down to the 34 PSI I was running on my last set of terra grapplers. Its a good compromising pressure. Descent gas millage and a comfortable ride. Though when I am pulling my bass boat. I air up to about 38 psi. These tires and the pressures you run them at really is a balancing act. To low and the rude gets spongy and the steering isnt as responsive, to high and the ride is teeth shattering and the steering gets squirrely.
