Another one down, here in Ottawa, Canada! I will post the details tomorrow when I get my laptop back (I hate typing on my phone) but I had to share the good news.

Update... just scanned it to grab some proof...

    Here's the thing about MPG.

My city MPG has gone up. I figure it's because I am more comfortable staying in low RPMs now.

My HWY MPG has gone down, but I am driving faster because I feel more comfortable accelerating in 5th and 6th gear.

In short, MPG has change, but I am not sure if it's driver behavior or due to the tune.

By the way I just want to start by saying thank for everyone who posted directions and files for this update. I personally enjoyed it. My truck was one of those horrible 2015 nov builds. This update made the truck feel new once more. Nevertheless the update I even applied it to a buddies 2017 auto and he even see the change. So if anyone in NJ near the Burlington county area needs this loaded on his or her truck just let me know I could easily load it on your truck for you.

    Just message me

Another happy customer. I took my 2018 in for a 10k service and asked them to hook it up to the computer. They marked down "customer states surging problem", likely thinking that it was an automatic. After a while they said it was done, but that there were no updates for the manual as the TSB was for automatics only. The service personnel weren't dismissive and were happy to listen to my explanation (showed them this 100+ page thread along with the ECU numbers). They agreed to go run a check and 15 minutes later came back saying they were able to update it. FWIW, this was Conicelli Toyota in Conshohocken, PA.

I won't say it's a drastic change, but it definitely seems to pull more linearly though the rpm range. The "surge" at 4k is still there, but less pronounced than before. I'll have to wait a while to see if there's any change in mpg and whether it's smoother holding 75mph in 6th on the interstate hills.

Confirmed that I have 04B11 this AM with OBD fusion. MY17 Sport 6MT purchased in Nov 2016. Really no drivability issues, or I have gotten use to the power delivery. That said, there are obviously reasons why the ECU configurations are being updated, and I hope for a bit more power under 2K RPMs. Ordered the Tactrix cable a few minutes ago. Hope it doesn't screw up my consistent 21-22 mpg tank. averages!

If I had been at 04B12, I would have attempted to have the dealer update it. I have no faith that they will since my ECU code doesn't show up on the TSB. Decided not to waste my time and frustration.

Agree with feeling more comfortable accelerating in 5th and 6th. Before you'd have to press on the pedal so much I would wonder if I was hurting the engine trying to get it to increase power in those gears.

Thanks to Joe for meeting me today and applying the update with no issues. I still gotta see if I feel any changes as I don't drive the truck a lot but i did immediately see the mileage increasing. I went from 04B11 to 04B13

Canadian here... tell them that at idle, when you turn the wheel, the RPMs drop and it feels almost like it's going to stall. That's what I did. I mentioned surging too. I told them to hook it up to TechStream and they will see an update.

The work order said something like "Customer complains of RPM drop when turning wheel and asked to have update applied. Hooked up TechStream and saw update and applied it" Then later on same order says "Customer complains of surging. Says there is TSB. Checked TSB, but is for automatic only, not applied"
In the end though it's all the same since they are the same update and the drop in RPM when turning the wheel at idle is indeed a Canadian TSB... called a TIS here in Canada. I wish I had the paperwork with me to show you.

Update for my truck, the service department had the tech look at it, and they confirmed that there was an ECu update available for my truck. All the service report mentions is “TSB EG1810, corrected by reprogram.” The truck seems to drive more smoothly now and not have the surging I experienced before with partial throttle acceleration, and even the transition of power when shifting seems a bit more smooth. In general there are a lot of areas in the power band and load condition that seem to be smoother than before.

04B11-->04B13. Thanks to @tonered for the instructions and a bit of PMing to get TS installed. Did a 20 mile loop and the 1000-2000rpm band feels more torquey. Trip fuel econ was 23.5, which is in-line with what I would have expected with the old config. I normally drive with fuel econ in mind, so I am in that <2K rpm band quite a bit. Hoping it stays this way, but at least I feel better about having the most up-to-date config. Obviously Toyota put their B-team on this ECU tuning, or perhaps rushed it. 4 configurations (3 updates) for the 16/17MY...Must have hired ex-Microsoft folks .

Planning to do some datalogging now that I have the set-up. My previous vehicle was a Mazda CX5. It had 70 degrees of seamless intake cam phasing. Smoothest modern vehicle I have ever owned. I am curious what the VVT and throttle angles are doing at various engine loads/conditions.

FYI - When installing TS from the suggested location...after install, make sure you find the 'MainMenu.exe" file within the installed folder structure, and replace it with the file of the same name from the extracted .RAR. Otherwise you will have issues with the key (oops )

OK. So I am going to the dealer this afternoon. I asked them on the phone yesterday if there was any TSB or anything out there for this "surge" I was experiencing between 2nd and 3rd gear. Of course, the answer was no. Not being much of a tech guy myself, what exactly do I need in my back pocket to force the issue with the dealer to do this? Do I need the TSB#? Just not sure. Someone can write me a script. I'm a mediocre actor and think can pull it off once I'm face-to-face with the dealer.

Having the TSB would help for sure. Highlight the engine code for the truck you have that’s listed in the TSB. Then tell them the issues you are having and be nice but firm.

Just take copies of the two TSBs with you. The problem is that you have a 2018. Both TSB-0058-18 and TSB-0125-18 have the same software update for you. 04A70 gets updated to 04A71 as shown in the table on Page 3 of TSB-0058-18.

The problem there is that while TSB-0058-18 lists your MT specific ECU, the TSB is noted for ATs only. TSB-0125-18 is for both ATs and MTs and gets the same software update, but only notes the 2017 ECU (04B12 gets updated to 04B13) for MTs. So, you need to explain to your dealer there are errors in the header for these TSBs but either applies to you and that they will find an update to be applied if they hook up TechStream.

The fact is that MTs owners for all model years (late 2015 build dates through late 2018 build dates) have had this update successfully applied to their MT Tacos.

I'll let it up to @stun gun to give you the script.

Edit: If you look back on other posts that dealers have done for other MT owners, they sometimes reference a TSB on the Work Order, some don't. Most always, the shop hours is shown as 0.4hr. The update takes a true total of less than 10min. These TSB do not update your MT, just engine software only. The undeniable fact is that improves shifting due to the better software.
