So a few days ago I get a tiny, half inch rock chip in my 2018 windshield. Normally I'd have left it alone and dealt with it if it spread later on. Have had those in other vehicles for years with no issues. Anyway, I got talked in to having Safelite come out to "repair it". Get a call from the guy who says that the suction from the process cracked the windshield (14" across) and now I need a new one. They do tell you that's a risk ahead of time but rare. I guess I drew the short straw this time. Anyway, looks like close to $500 for a new one and then $250 for Toyota to recalibrate the TSS. Really pissed, I'm in one of those phases where it's something new every other day and this is the last thing I needed right now. Just venting.

Comprehensive insurance will cover this, unless you have a high deductible, then your better off paying for a new on in cash.

I had received a small chip aswell, around 1/4” in size. I looked up a local chip repair place within the hour to get it fixed. If I let it be it would turn into a long crack and be harder to stop. The guy had good reviews and this was 3 weeks ago. So far the chip has not spread at all and I’m very satisfied. He didn’t say anything before beginning about possibly making it worse. So kinda sucks to have had a “name brand” company come out and just worsen things.

You could possibly try seeking a discount from them if the crack keeps spreading which would indicate they didn’t do a good job at the repair anyway.

I've been driving all over with a windshield cracked from side to side for over a year. No leaks, no problems.
    I'm leaving it alone.
If I replace it I'm sure I'm catching a rock right away

$500 deductible on my comprehensive, New Hampshire doesn't have the liberal replacement that many other states do unfortunately.

Vehicles here won't pass inspection if the crack is longer than a dollar bill.

From my experience $1 would not cover the crack but a $100 will. Just find the right pocket...

i definitely wouldn't put any of this on Safelite. Toyota's glass quality has not been enough to withstand normal stresses and they are saving their bones with that move, and you find so many reports of weak glass that you rarely see with higher cost vehicles. and Safelite's reputation, at least the one i know, is good and solid.

Satellite did the same thing to mine, just a two inch crack though. Car wash in Texas fixed about five chips in my wife's car and you cant tell they are there.

Safelite actually quoted me a very good price over the phone and set up my appointment for the replacement. Not sure if they are cutting me some slack due to the repair going wrong or what but $302 isn't too shabby. Going through the online quote process came up with something north of $450.

I don’t know about you but I’d jump on that offer real quick. Nearly $150 difference? That’s 4 tanks of gas! Haha.
