    Thanks
The 5” for $336 is pretty tempting, I already have 2 4.25” slides for the M&P, one in 9 and one in .40, and I would like to try the 5”, however for duty use I would like the option of the red dot and the 4.25” barrel.
    I’m a little torn.

I've fired his in 5" before it got a Vortex venom and I liked the sight radius and extra mass. With a red dot the sight radius becomes moot though. If you don't have reason to buy the 5" for a competition or something I'd go 4.25. More holster compatibility there.

Check ammoseek. I've seen brass cased ammo closer to $0.20/rd, but I haven't checked recently.

    500 rounds of .40, 500 rounds of 9mm $191.12 shipped.
$0.19/rd averaged cost, while yes it’s steel case I don’t really care, it’ll disappear quickly enough.

I've only had success with steel cased ammo in my ARs. I bought 500 rds of Tula (steel cased) for the only .40SW I had and it didn't run lol.

I sold the gun and kept the ammo, now waiting on a decent police trade in to shoot it out of.

My dad bought a brick of Wolf a while back, none of his guns would shoot it but my M&P and Glock shot it, my XDs was iffy on reliability with it.
So far I've run steel case in my M&P, Glock, XDs, and P320 and only issue I've had was iffy reliability in the XDs, but to be fair it was a very new gun, I feel it would probably be more reliable now.

Anyone build there own ARs, looking at advice on where to start and what is a reasonable price to build one. Really just for targets and fun.

Decide what you want to use it for, and build accordingly.

Start with a stripped lower and a complete assembled upper for your first. I personally buy the lower based on the roll mark I like because mil spec is mil spec. These days an AR can be as cheap as $250, or you could spend more on just the handguard alone.

Look to lower to mid tier brands like Aero for a solid foundation for your first. An Aero lower can be had for as cheap as $45-50 stripped, and performs identically to a $25 Anderson or a $180 Noveske.

Also realize these days that any assembled rifle will be valued less than a factory assembled anything. You do not build an AR, you assemble it and therefor there are tons of them in the market. Build what you want or like and forget the idea that it would even holds its value; the value is in the parts.

Thanks, ya building one seemed more intriguing than just buying a built one. I mean cost isn’t a huge problem but it’s a market I haven’t learned much about.

You can spend as much as you want on one. Figure out how much you are wanting to spend and go from there.

    Places to start:
    • Toolcraft NIB BCGs have been hovering around $90 lately, solid place to start.
    • Larue is still running the $87 MBT-2S trigger until Christmas, awesome trigger for the money.
    • If your going with a 16" barrel make sure you buy one set up for a mid length gas system.
    • Wojtek will probably have a Black Friday sale on his adjustable gas blocks. If you have the chance pay the extra few bucks to have the gas tube pinned in the gas block for you, it is a pain to do.

With Black Friday sales coming up you should be able to build a decent rifle for pretty cheap. Keep an eye on r/gundeals.

    edit: spelling

my step dad has one...basically after 5 shots you'll wish for a wrist brace....its a cool gun but i'd rather tote a .357 mag..both are hand cannons but the .454 is a little much unless you just want to be sure you will kill them with one or 2 shots

A good set of punches, barrel wrench (magpul has a good one), and a vice grip or reaction ride (brownells has a moderately priced reaction rod they make), and a vice. Those are the esssentials. For a first build I would recommend getting a builders kit from aero precision as those are good quality. From there any lower parts kit from a good manufacturer will work. I typically get a spikes or aero then a upgraded trigger is nice like the MBT or a geissele. I typically run magpul stock and grip. I like the moe plus with rubber grip and ACS. After that a h2 buffer from spikes is nice although I upgraded to a one piece design so I could remove the buffer stop as that’s a bit of a weak point. Then looking at barrels aero precision’s sister company balsitic advantage is good for the price. It’s all preference but they are LEGO guns and super fun to build and tweak over time. Only thing that is left from my original build is the lower and only half the lower parts kit. All depends on price

There are tons of guides and videos so its pretty simple to follow along with a guide. Buy whatever lower you want as they are all fundamentally the same. I go with ambi ones but I'm a lefty shooter :) As for a parts kit...just depends how fancy you want to go with things like the safety and trigger.

Id personally wait till closer to black Friday as there are bound to be some good deals. Can often find whole lower build kits with stocks and parts kits in one
