That's a good point. Here in CA and the West Coast in general, I don't think there is too much to worry about with/without the mod. I can see what people are talking about regarding the tube clogging due to it being closer to the road. It's all a trade off.

So I did this mod, for the first couple of days when I checked, it was draining properly. I checked today and I don't see it draining. It's pretty cold where I am, so I have been using heat mostly. However I did come out the truck, run the AC for a few mins on high, and still didn't see any water draining. Is this normal? I feel like sometimes I get a strange smell like rubbing alcohol from the AC but honestly I don't know, it might just be the new car smell still. Any ideas why it's not draining? Is it the cold? Is it evaporating due to the proximity to the exhaust?

I have found both on these Tacoma’s and my 4runner, humidity has to be pretty high for the ac to drip. I was a little concerned about mine this past spring when I ran the ac in 90 degree temps with no dripping. I removed the hose to make sure nothing was clogged and it was totally clear, just the humidity was low. As soon as the humidity got high enough, water dripped like crazy. My opinion is you’re ok. Hope this helps!

Anybody know the size AC hose is? I purchased 5/8 heater hose but it’s appears too small. Local store has heated hose; inner dimension (ID) and outer dimension (OD) sizes.

I just did this mod and it took some wiggling around to make the hose fit but it eventually worked. Overall, easy and cheap.

Just curious, would the smell of water burning been a result of this? I live in AZ and run the AC constantly...I can’t describe the smell exactly but it is like when water is burning on metal.

Rumor has it that Toyota has created a kit for sale. Not sure if it’s true since I can’t find proof online.

This still the setup for 2019's? I think they corrected the cabin tail light. Hoping they did the same for this.

I just Fluid Filmed the crap out of every square inch of frame, in and out, including this. Salt is a lot more to worry about. I'll do it again after the spring wash.

Just checked the truck and after 10k it's already showing a few spots of rust, going to be tackling this soon. Thanks OP!

I have a better mod for this particular area that I've used to great success where the condensation drips onto the frame. Super cheap and you can get it from just about anywhere online or in auto stores.
