I just chatted with an officer from the Forest Service about open carrying my pistol when backpacking/fishing in Pisgah this weekend and he told me I'm good to go but to check with any WMA in the area. I assume this is because it's hunting season. Does anyone have any experience with open carry in NC during a hunting season?

The second amendment does not make an exception for hunting seasons.

The second amendment doesn’t apply to open carry. It doesn’t apply to carry at all.

I have no open carried in NC during hunting season but in CO.

In my experience game wardens are reasonable. Follow the law, and don’t be hunting with it illegally. You should be fine.

It's mainly because Pisgah NF is a federal area, and the WMAs are state managed as far as I'm aware. Probably just covering himself so if you got in a jam, you couldn't fall back on "Well, Ranger Rick told me X..."

From what i know you are good in the park but do not take it into any buildings that are federal. Only real way of getting into trouble

Thanks guys, after speaking with the forest service I called fish and wildlife and they put me in touch with an officer. He said I'm good to go in national forests, in state parks only concealed carry is allowed and you have to carry a permit with reciprocity in that state.

I'm up in the Pisgah/WNC forest area quite often but never seen an open carrier, even though it is legal. I only start to see it occasionally in TN. Just something to consider maybe. I've heard stories about legal open carriers having to educate an officer on the law.

I guess I don't understand your comment. "Bear" means carry.

    Actually it is.
The Second Amendment only states the right to own firearms. Thats it.

Laws dictating the legality and limitations of carrying a firearm are left up to individual states. A state requiring a license for open or concealed carry is not unconstitutional.

Keep and bear, not just keep. A state law restricting or requiring a license is unconstitutional. Just because those laws are on the books does not make them legal. Agree to disagree for the purpose of keeping this thread from being locked.

Supreme Court has determined requirement of a license or laws forbiding those convicted of a felony from carrying are not unconstitutional.

You may disagree with that and thats fine but the fact of the matter is the Supreme Court has determined its for ownership not a constitutional right to carry with you whenever and however you want.

ARB Bumper, SOS sliders, rear bumper, and skid plate. OME Lift. Some other stuff.
The problem with the supreme court is its nine judges, unelected and serving for life deciding whats best for a nation of almost 4 million people.

I for one don't need permission from a man to protect me and mine but some do I guess.

I ended up just taking my 380 and keeping it in my backpack's hip belt, felt safe and no issues with people questioning why I'm carrying

I don’t care about the philosophical bull shit.

The law is the law. The OP was asking about the law.
You carry a gun illegally there are consequences.
You use a gun illegally there are consequences.

You can argue your true constitutional rights from a jail cell all day long. See if it gets you out.

Concealed means concealed. If I have to use a firearm to save my life or others and happen to be in a place where my constitutional rights don’t apply that is a price I’m willing to pay. I’ll sleep well in my jail cell knowing I did the right thing.
