I had to use their services multiple times living in SATX. For some reason, people liked to hit my car with me in it, over and over. Even got their detective involved in a situation where a lady swerved in front of me, locked up her brakes, and then claimed all the dents on her car were caused when I tapped her. They had RUST in them. Fortunately a good Samaritan stuck around to give an eye-witness account to the police, and she had no license or insurance. Apparently she didn't expect me to call the police on myself. Fuck her. USAA fought her fraud and my rates never changed.

Absolutely. It's a little more effort, but a creditor can check any of the credit bureaus. Some people think that they check all 3 but creditors are lazy - they normally check one and call it good. Chase bank seems to like Transunion, while Citi was using Experian. I don't think folks much like Equifax anymore. I froze them all - screw 'em.

I've had my full identity stolen from: Equifax (2017), the Office of Manpower and Budget (2015, 2012), Tricare (2011, 2008), and Bank of America (2004). The identity protection crap the government gives you for free is basically useless. It's a pointer with no teeth. "Hey, uh, woof?" Freezing everything and only systematically allowing access to credit seems to have kept anyone from trying to be me. So far so good.

My brother-in-law had someone file taxes using his SSN a few years ago (for a fake refund of $6500), and now has to go through a real hassle every year at tax time. My MIL has a woman running around in North Austin pretending to be her, so was surprised to get a court summons for a shoplifting charge in Pflugerville. The cops were really cool about that one and are still looking for the perp.

Same, I had a guy w/ Geico insurance rear end me and geico played around till I call usaa. The geico driver wouldn't pick up the phone for geico so they didn't pay out. Usaa sued the guy, waived my deductible, rates didnt go up. After usaa served the driver he found a phone. Funny that.

 

Or lonely. They're going to find all sorts of long, lost relatives.
