    Hello all,

Long story short, I'm in need of a new truck! I've wanted a Tundra now for a while and well, I just can't realistically afford a Tunrda (52k...for a Platinum) so I'm going to the next best thing... a Tacoma. I've always heard Toyota's have been super reliable so I'm looking forward to that. I'm kind of in between though... I have some needs and some wants but it's hard to find a package that fits the bill - maybe y'all can steer me in the right direction?

    Needs -
    4 Door (Double Cab)
    NAV / Good Radio
    Remote Start
Either Standard or Auto (prefer standard)
    Under 35k out the door

    Wants -
    Leather
    Heated / Cooled Seats
TRD Package (Pro if it warrants the price...)

    Welcome!

You can’t go wrong with either the Tundra or Tacoma. They are both great trucks. It just depends on which one is a better fit for your needs. Most of the wants you listed can be added aftermarket if you’re open to go that route. You could get into a less expensive truck initially and add those things down the road. Which TRD package are you considering (Sport or Offroad) and is there a particular reason you want a TRD as opposed to an SR or SR5?

I was recommended to go with the TRD Sport by a guy I work with who has a Gen 2 I believe, said he loves his and swears by it. My lack of knowledge for the packages is the true reason, ideally I'd like to get everything from the factory but if I decide to lift and such then obviously aftermarket is the only route. It'll be a mall crawler (don't do much off roading really) and commuter so nothing wild. I recently saw a build from a female on the boards here, Ms Deadpool or something of that nature - really like what she's done aesthetic wise, I see she off roads but the height and some of the other mods are visually pleasing which is what I'd be going for.

The true need / want for a standard is so I can teach my wife, I always promised her I would so - why not right!?

Well there is a ton of information here as far as what each package offers. Hopefully you can find something that offers everything you are looking for.

    Good luck on your search!

Have you looked at some dealerships, to see what they have? I bought mine from the local dealer here in Danbury. I drive by everyday, and I think they have a few on the lot... I think.

    Hey man,

I'm up in Hartford County just off the Mass line, for the right deal I'd be willing to travel for sure. I guess at this point I'm just trying to figure out which truck would be best for me. I'm leaning towards the TRD because well, it's a TRD duhhh right bruhhh - kidding kidding lol

    Welcome to TW!
I think it may be hard to find a NEW TRD OR/Sport with Premium and tech for 35K out the door. If you are able to make a deal on one, take it and run! Now would be a good time to look into the 2018s if you are looking new.
I got my 18 TRD OR with Tech for 34.5 before TTL. I put some money down so it was less than 35K out the door if you count it like that. I added clazzio leather covers after purchase, and can't tell much of a difference from my 18 4Runner with factory leather.

Check out the one here and see what they have. Got nothing to lose at this point.

It's called Greentree Toyota. Pretty easy to get to right off of 84.

Thanks Chad, I too thought it was a good time to get a half way decent deal. I sure hope a dealer can work with me, I thought with the 2019's getting ready to move out in full force they're trying to push the 2018's out the door.

One thing maybe someone can help me with... I've got a larger dog, I'd love to put a crate in the back seat but still be able to retain a spot to drop a child seat. Is that possible?

I have a 50lb pitbull. She took up the entire 60% split portion of the back seat on her own, not in a crate. There was enough room for my daughter in the booster seat on the 40% side. Dunno how it'd work with a large dog crate back there

So does the rear split 40/60 or is it a single bench? I haven't been able to catch pictures of a double cab 60/40. Ideally it would be a custom crate, mines a 63lb American Staffordshire Terrier so that is one concern being the size of the cab for him / us.

Yeah its a rear split seat. You may be alright if you're custom building a crate into the cab, but Its still going to be a tight fit.

Good to know, yeah it'd likely be a custom built crate that I would measure out after I put myself in the truck w/ a comfortable position and such. The next question is, is the 60% on the passenger side or driver side?
