If you scratch bedliner, it starts to lift off the metal. Best option is primer than flat enamel. That way you can easily touch up without flashing

I tried that stuff before on my old 1st Gen. Doesn't stick super well and starts flaking. Just use a good primer and flat black paint, like said above.

Have you checked into having it bedlined at a line-x or rhino dealer? The price is usually pretty reasonable if you take them the bumper before you put it on

I was thinking about that. Theres a Line x dealer near here and a bunch of "spray on bed liner" places.

I like Rust-Oleum professional paint. It seems to stick better and more durable than their regular paint .

Bed liner doesn't stick great to bare metal. I would use their run of the mill flat black if you plan on wheeling and bumping it into rocks so touch up are easy. If your going to be more mild like fire roads or just mall crawl go get it powder coated at a reputable shop. And I say reputable because they can very easily cut corners. The bumper on my jeep was powder coated flat black and held up beautifully to d-rings slapping it 24/7 and even getting buried into a few berms. Looked good as new when I sold it.

Check out the hammertone rattle cans by rustoleum. It looks cool and cheap to touch up

I just primed mine and used some rustoleum semi gloss paint. I usually use the pro stuff but this time I just went for some regular spray paint. Time will tell how it holds up.

If it’s powder coated steel it should be sand blasted first or it’ll peel off. If it’s done right it’ll stay on.

Exactly. Needs to be blasted before. Some shops do a wash with some chemical, I think it does an acid etch, and that will inevitably peel. Happened on some of my projects and never going back to them. Pay to have it done right the first time.

Have a Sport with color keyed lower bumper insert. Wanted to do this to that piece (almost looking more like an Off Road). Thoughts?
Hit it with the matte/flat enamel after a sand/primer?
Or do you think the matte bedliner would stick better as it is not bare metal?

I used the paint posted by the op on my sliders. First sanded the metal, then cleaned with acetone, self etching primer, final with rust oleum black bed liner spray paint. Definitely use more thin coats then less heavy.

You need to wipe it down with a scotchbrite pad and some acetone. Then do at least two coats of good etching primer, then you can paint it with whatever.

I painted my sliders, streamline bumper, and IFS skid from SOS Offroad concepts all with that exact paint. I wire-wheeled them shiny using an angle grinder, wiped down with acetone, and then used self-etching spray primer (also from rustoleum). This was a LONG process and absolutely not worth it. The armor is holding up great and has been easy to touch up from trail damage (the IFS skid took a huge hit), but the bedliner shows wear from gravel and road debris, not even from impacts or scraping.

I cleaned them all, rubbed the hell out of them with a palm sander, and refinished them all with this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0070S7U4Y/ -- the roll-on stuff works WAY better, goes on faster, and is holding up way, way, way better. It looks better too because you get a thicker coat.

On my rear bumper, I skipped the spray and self-etching primer, instead opting to do an acetone wipe-down and then two layers of the roll-on above. It looks great and has held up better than the armor I used spray paint on.

I use the rattle can. Easy to touch up when the inevitable chip, dent or scratch occurs.
Disclaimer: rattle can paint is not suitable for conditions or terrain found at major malls. Can be used at strip malls and convenience stores with caution.

Eddy handmakes each by hand. All his stuff has been high quality, and is more affordable than any other armor if you order it bare and finish it yourself. He usually has a couple of 15% off sales per year, and sometimes a 20% off sale.
