    Hello fellow Taco drivers,

I'm looking for a tonneau cover for my 2016 Taco as the northeast winter approaches.
I'm leaning in the direction of a hardcover and tri-fold at that as it gives me the most versatility and security that I'm looking for.
However I've hit a wall and I'm hoping y'all can help set me straight. I get that most covers require you to remove/ relocate the tie-down rails which is not great but I can live with, but I will not drill a hole in my bed for the drain tube.

Are there any tri-fold covers that do not require you to make a permanent hole in your bed?
Can I just not drill that hole or would that totally result in a flooded bed?

Extang SolidFold 2.0. Connects into the rails, no drilling. I can take it off in 60 seconds and put it back on in less than 5 minutes. Hard cover tri-fold that locks tight. Make sure you get the cab rail seals with it or it'll leak at the cab rail. I also got the Maxseal tailgate seal to go with it. Very little water gets into the bed.

Thanks for the thread link, I clicked around a bit to get a better idea of what to look for.
I was mostly confused and annoyed that any cover required you to drill holes for draining, that in my opinion is an engineering flaw that is unacceptable, I could do better than that.

Another vote for the Extang SolidFold. Just put mine on yesterday and am very happy with the product. Excellent build quality, simple installation and removal.

I see you mentioned a hard cover specifically. In the event you are also considering a soft trifold, here is some info.
I am very happy with my tonneau cover. It is Lund Genesis Elite model, trifold soft cover. It's been on my 2017 AC Tacoma for about 9 months. Zero leaks. The "Elite" model uses a premium cover material manufactured by the Harrtz Co., which produces materials for OEM convertible tops. The Elite material has a woven appearance like you would see on a convertible top on a luxury car. Lund also makes a regular Genesis trifold, which uses a vinyl material, and is less expensive.

Many detailed YouTube videos on the product and its installation. It went on fairly easy. Also, simple to remove and reinstall. It attaches to the OEM rails in the bed utilizing a clamp system. The rails and tie-downs can still be used. No need to drill or otherwise modify the truck.

I am sure there are other good products out there. Lund is the only one I have direct experience with.

I have solid fold 2.0 as well... good cover....After I filled those front holes that they did not supply the plugs for..!

Some of the newer (2017'S) covers are having an issue with the top cover separating from the innerds…. Like the glue has let go. Had wrinkles all over..My buddy has his replaced 3 times and then the dealer of the cover said they would replace it with different brand.....

He got a nicer cover that lies lower and can fold against the cab.....Full access in box.

Sorry I cannot remember the name.

    Good luck

That sounds like the Bakflip cover, I came across it in my searches but it had you remove the cargo rails and relocate them lower down into the bed which seems dumb.

I just installed a Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite this weekend. No drilling required. No relocation of cargo rails. Install takes some time to get right because the cover is designed to open on the cab and tailgate end of the bed. A bonus benefit is that you can lock the cover. So far so good!

LOL, it is a plastic bed. Anyways, I don't really think it makes any difference if you use the tubes or not. I love my Backflip G2, but I understand your concern[IMG]

Those relocated cargo rails are exactly what I was trying to avoid, I do use the rails quire regularly in the warmer months.
I like how the BakFlip can fold up against the cab window but relocating the rails is a no-go.

xkyle89 I have a BakFlip MX4 for sale (new) for a long bed if you are interested. Yes the rails are relocated a little lower but are still functional. Realized after I purchased the BakFlip I should've got a canopy so I took it off and got one. Make you a good deal if interested?

Out of curiosity, why is moving the cargo rails an inch lower such a big problem? It took me about 15 minutes at an leisurely pace.

I am not drilling a hole, but instead running the tube under my bed mat

If you don't relocate the rails, then covers like the Extang solid fold consume valuable real estate on the rail.

The Extang Encore relocates rail, but has a cool front flip feature which is good for my is case.

One downside with soild covers is minimal warranty. Some hybrid covers offer lifetime and are both hard with a soft top.
