Nope. Most people don't know how to drive efficiently. They just drive and bitch.

Most people probably drive like normal...not hyper-miling it.

Huge difference between driving normal, driving efficiently and hypermile driving.

Normal = no thought given to efficiency. Floor it, brake at last minute, etc
Efficient driving = smooth acceleration, more following distance, longer deceleration.
Hypermile driving = no radio, ac, windows up, tires pumped hard, lots of coasting and drafting.

Again, most people drive normal, meaning they don't think, they just complain.

I drive what you consider normal, except don't floor it completely and it's always 22. I live 5 miles from work and barely hit 35 mph most days also. Typically the first one off the line, so I'm definitely not babying it. We also live in a hilly area. Anyone getting 18 has modified their truck or drives terrible.

Slow speed saves you. One of these days I'm going to test 65, 70 and 75 mph just to show people how much speed costs in efficiency.

You are mostly correct. Not everyone, meaning all normal drivers, complain. I think the misconception is most folks that are content to not make posts saying things like "everything is as it should be and just what I expected". Most posters to say "_______ SUCKS!!" or "I just did _______, it is freaking awesome" It seems we mostly get bragging and bitching there is rarely a middle ground.

I have said several times here on TW that I have a heavy foot. I know it, the wife knows it, my kids know it, I am fully aware of it's impact on my economy. I do not complain. I live in (south-ish) FL the AC is on excluding those 2 or 3 days a year that it drops below 85.

As I see it I have saved enough on fuel each year, moving from my 1st gen to the 3rd gen, for a car payment. I am quite pleased that I get about 4.5 mpg better than my 1st gen with a bigger and more feature rich truck.

With that said, I do not floor it frequently and typically do not brake at the "last" minute. For me flooring it is much like braking severely enough to activate ABS, it is emergency move and should not be done frequently.

My driving style is roughly no less than 1/2 and up to 3/4 throttle to reach speed, hold speed as a decent following distance (normally greater of 2 seconds or 2-3 car lengths), Use engine braking where possible 50-75% of stops (Damned snowbirds and teen drivers)I am thinking about increased economy to offset reduced acceleration economy when I use engine braking, 19-20 mpg predominantly "city" no complaints.

Great point, wind drag alone from 65 to 75 causes a pretty steep hit to mpg. Not to mention running at higher rpms

Same here, average 16-17mpg on most tanks (short trips w/ 6mt).
If mainly driving 45-55mph, I can get 23+ on a tank.
    Highway speeds, below 20mpg.

I would trust Fuelly before some of the outlandish claims posted on TW.

If you’re always cruising in Atkinson, you’re gonna get good fuel mileage, your engine is almost coasting. If you’re looking for that 289 hp, gunning it, you’re gonna get garbage mileage. You’re gonna get 289hp mileage.

I get the best miliage on 89 octane. Yea I know what the manual says. However if I go to 93 then miliage goes down. I average 20-22 on a consistent basis.

I drive exactly 4 miles to work/back with full city block traffic (approximately hit about 3-7 red lights in that short span) and never go over 35mph. I drive like a nanny slow as fuck and steady as fuck, absolutely no mods on the truck whatsoever, 33psi all around, and I will hit 17-18mpg consistiently. I would love to know what secrets you're using because I can tell you this - I'm trying to drive consciously for fuel consumption but it won't crack 20 without highway/freeway driving.

As I see it, there is no possible way we have such similar drives yet you have more hills and yet you still claim to be getting 20% more mileage than I am. (if both of our trucks are stock, which mine is).
