Just a couple of shots from my last trip - Cape Lookout NC

This was sunset on the ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke. We arrived in Ocracoke but it had an awesome beach commune type of feel and I think I'll get back down that way again to spend some actual time down there. As it was, we spent the night queued in the next ferry parking lot for our booking first thing over to Cedar Island.

First ferry ride for me with the whole rig - this one was much less eventful than those to come.

And a few shots of the fellas and lasses...

Weather was great for the steam from Ocracoke over to Cedar Island. The ride was about 2 hours due to the snaking of the channels in and out of port. It's the first time in ages I can remember being on a boat and not being able to see land.

This was the ferry that we stuffed the super duty and Tacoma on to and from Cape Lookout. The return trip was a little nautical but nothing crazy.

We did cut the stay short one night just with the weather (mostly wind which really carried the sand) and headed back to the mainland. Truck and trailer worked great, 18psi handled the sand without any issue. I was almost bummed as I thought I'd finally have an opportunity to break out the maxtrax and give myself an excuse to get lockers. No such luck - one last shot tho!

Didn't take to many more shots on the trip back up but did get another late sunrise shot that I kinda liked.

Here’s a turn of events. Loved your mounting location, found a good deal on a charge controller, shows up and it’s huge...

How’d you make out with the LRA tank install? I just picked one up this past weekend.
Did you remove the bed to install?

Was that the one that was for sale in VA?

All in all, it's actually a really easy swap. I did pull the bed since I knew I was going to need to do some additional work to get it hung on the long bed chassis and it was a great opportunity for me to clean up the frame and respray my bumper. Basically a weekend project even with pulling the cap, drawers and bed and putting it all back together.

I do have the issue with overfilling still but others don't so hopefully you get lucky. The general consensus seemed to be that it was down to the hose from the tank to the charcoal canister being kinked but I know mine was good cause the bed was off for the install - I'm not sure how folks do that hose with the bed on.

Otherwise, I've just committed to checking the fuel used via the scangauge before filling and that's gotten me really close and works well enough to avoid the overfill. It's great to be over 300 miles a tank now and getting rid of some of the range anxiety I had when pulling the trailer and bike.

Alright fella's, I've been pretty lax on updating this thing and I kinda forget some of the projects done since the last update other than the fixing up the front end with some new hubs and a fresh set of EBC's, and the LRA tank. That said, I tossed this tank in late July and it's been great having the extended range while towing the teardrop and bike, especially when sticking to dirt for a weekend.

The install was pretty straight forward including making provisions for installing in the long bed frame. For those on the fence, I do think it's a worthwhile investment. My primary concerns going in were adding another 100lb or so of tank/fuel and the overfilling issue that some have experienced.

I got lucky on the weight and I really don't see an appreciable difference on ride or height but she's already a bit chubby so another 100lb probably doesn't go far.. I do have the overfilling issue but have adapted to just fill based on my scangauge which has worked very well so far. Also, it's worth noting that because the tank is longer the gas gauge can take some getting used to again - I can go about 100 miles now before the gauge even starts dropping and the low fuel light comes on with about 8 gallons still in the tank.

I did decide to pull the bed to do the install just to make life easier for running hoses and I wanted to clean the back half and repaint the frame and bumper while in there. I skipped photos of pulling the cap and bed storage junk out so on to the pictures of my sketchy bed removal setup and the install..

Yes, I bought mine from another member in Va this past weekend. Very much looking forward to getting it done.

I’m gonna keep it. I’ll make it work for now, maybe make a bed rail mount for now. But it won’t be too big for long term goals of going trey/canopy.. A lot of their setups include an electrical wall like this..

And short term goals is this..

Haha nice I thought I'd seen one listed on here somewhere. Install really isn't bad, I did the whole deal in a weekend by myself start to finish. As a matter of fact the only parts that really slowed me down were getting the cap off the bed the first time since I was lazy and didn't pull the rack, solar or anything else and getting the last bolt in the LRA mount on the front driver side. That bolt sucks. Bad. Really.

Otherwise if you pull the bed, you might be surprised how light it really is, I'd be shacked if it's 200lb with the tailgate.

Nice, I've seen the Norwelds at Expo East and up here in PA, they are slick. If it wasn't for the swingout bumper loss (it's an All-Pro collectible now?) I'd have had it on the list of considerations. I dig the option to pull the canopy and have a flatbed for sure. The expense is rough too.

I was really considering going to the Vagabond setup with the pop-top but they never responded to any of my questions about the build or lead time so I'm leery of dropping coin sight-unseen and road tripping to CA to get it. For the time being the trailer works well but it's tight quarters when it's more than just me.
