Sounds good! I agree that you would not want to reduce the thickness beyond the passages. I did not probe down the two visible holes before sending it off to you. My initial guess is that any hidden features are probably pretty shallow?

    Nice!

I could be simple physics and the rubber seal acts like a bellows that throttles the flow? Meaning the disk moves in and out? For that, I would expect it to ride closer to the inner surface though? I'm just shooting blanks here. :D

Now that I know how it gets reassembled, it might be weird and convoluted ... but manufacturing this disc design is about a 20 second cycle time on a CNC lathe. Mount it on a fixture, push a button ... easy mode. My gut tells this is the only reason it be how it be.

I think you are right. If the disc didn’t move there would be no other reason for it to made like this.

BD17BFD4-8D40-428E-85A7-1518A25B2030.jpg Just returned from a test drive, after bending up a short section of line from the slave to the new brass union connecting the other line to the res. What a difference it made. Clutch now engages the same every time. No more clutch bounce or erratic buffering. Much smoother, and softer pedal feel. I was able to turn up my Sprintbooster to race 5 without fear of melting the clutch while engaging from a stop. Very happy with this mod, wished I had done this 2+ years ago. I sacrificed the short oem slave line for the fittings. I didn’t want to use the aftermarket fittings that came on the line from Napa. In the pic it looks like the line is rubbing the tranny, but I can fit my thumb behind it. It’s actually very rigid, no need to add a clamp. Started with a 12” section, and ended up cutting roughly 2” off.

Hell if I know! It’s becoming apparent to me that Toyota does some weird shit.
I’m sure the engineers have some reason to justify it.

It it's the NG I am thinking of, yeah ... they don't mess around. Used to do subcontracted work for them at my previous place of employment, and the whole time the project was active we had to check our cell phones at the door.

I received the Earl's Performance Speed-Flex hose today, and just crawled under the truck to see if it would fit.
The bends will be tight, but not extreme, and with a brake line clamp to hold it in place I think it will work. The heat shrink tubing for the Earl's advertising
will need to be removed to make one of the bends easier. I'm not familiar with PTFE hoses and how they hold up to being bent over time, so I'm a bit leery
    about installing it.

The more interesting thing about this hose is the sticker wrapped around it. It reads: "For off-road use only. Not for use on public roads or highways". That
makes me even more nervous about using it. Maybe someone can chime in about the reason behind that warning.

You might have some problems installing that hose. It should be female on both ends.

How thick is the disc on the back of these suckers?

It absolutely looks like the disc may even flex in the middle with pressure applied?

I mean it's held firmly in place around the outer edge by that split ring thing.. right?

My other question - if there was enough clearance for ample fluid to flow when the whole thing is bolted together and the disc is not "flexed", could we not just use a solid spacer disc behind it to stop movement and just have flow in and out?

This assumes that there are no other internal parts at play.

I mean it's still a bit of a PITA, but at least you wouldn't have to make up new lines/flares/fittings etc.

    Just spitballing

    Edit:
Wait a minute.... if cutting a channel in the accumulator body doesn't work, couldn't a new thicker disc be fabricated with a channel milled into it between the inlet and outlet holes? Index/seal the sucker and you're done?
Basically you throw away the split ring because now the disc itself will touch the backing plate and seal against the o-ring on the inside when tightened down.

    Too complicated? @tonered ?

Don’t worry about the off road only sticker. Remember this is meant to be a brake hose, it is not DOT certified. That’s why the sticker is there.
As for the tight bend, if it’s not kinked you will be ok. I would leave the heat shrink on for some additional support at the bend.
    Go for it!

It’s around 2mm I would guess. Will check it tomorrow at work.
I really don’t think there are any other parts internally.
I’m eventually going to “connect” the two ports with a dremal and put it back on, For scientific reasons.....Ha

I like where your'e going with that, my two concerns would be how thick the material is in that area and getting it clean afterwords.

The female end connects directly to the upper line and the male end goes right to the slave cylinder, It eliminates the need for an adapter between the upper and lower line.

After I get mine replaced with a direct line, I thought about having one of the toolmakers at work mill out my accumulator to see what could be done. They can insure a direct path for me, and will be more precise about depth and width of cut than I will with a die grinder. Also, the cutting chips will be larger and easier to make sure they all get cleaned out.
