So I’m about to purchase a 2019 TRD Offroad. Hard decision (for me) if i should go with an Auto or 6sp manual tranny. What’s the consensus here? Pro’s/con’s? I like the auto but the manual transmission is calling out to me.

Sounds like you already know the answer.
Based off the amount of bitching about the AT.....I wouldn’t buy one.

Test drive them both and get the one you like. I am pulling for the manual though!

I am regretting not getting a manual. The automatic at times is bizarre - at least for me. It is especially wonky when having to merge or accelerate quickly. Seems to be a lot of hesitation, inconsistent acceleration, hard down shifts and gear hunting. It has gotten better, but whenever I drive my wife’s car I realize that the 3rd gen tranny has some quirks. Nonetheless it’s not terrible.
My opinion is based on the fact that I love manuals, and not necessarily that I hate this automatic. If you really like manuals, I’d go for it. But if you’re considering the manual as a means to avoid a bad “auto” that might not be enough justification since it is really not all that bad.

Again, for me, there’s just something about a manual truck... love my wrangler I6 4.0 5 speed and still puts a smile on my face.

Absolutely do a search, but do a search for “sold” Tacoma manuals since they go so fast, especially 1st Gens.

I have the 6 speed manual and it is awesome! once you get to know the Engine and drive train you may just find that you can manage your Mpg to keep it at a decent number and yes I have had low Mpg of 17.0 pulling my boat to an average of 19.8 to 23.00 average that is and have seen 25.4 and I don't think I could do that in the Auto transmission,

I like my auto, but these type of threads are like a dog whistle for Manual guys.

I’ve looked weekly for the last 20+ years.

The 1st and 2nd Gen manuals are in super high demand and they sell faster than anything else.

Just like 4cyl vs 6cyl everyone wants the 6cyl.

Just like 2WD vs 4WD everyone wants the 4WD.

Just like Auto vs Manual, everyone wants the MT.

I’m not saying anything is better than anything else, it’s what owners want in a used Toyota truck.

You can even go all the way back to the full solid axles, everyone wants MT as well. The only ones still gor sale are the Autos. Try to find an original 4WD Toyota truck in MT 1980 or older.

I went with a manual and don’t regret it a bit. I sold my 99’ because it was an auto. Wish I would have bought it in a manual and I would still own it. I just turned 78k on my 2017 today and I have not had one problem with it.
