The other E rated thread got me to thinking. I am wondering if I messed up getting these tires that I have with the E rating. What do you all think? I preferrably would like to hear from the ones running bfg at's in a 265/75/16 tire but am willing to hear what you all think as well. I want this size and for me to get this size in this tire I had to get the E rated tire.

Well, I just did some research.

265/70/16 bfg at's weigh in at 49 lbs a piece

265/75/16 bfg at's weigh in at 54 lbs a piece

That is a 5lb difference which isn't near as bad as I thought it would be. I hear it is a 1mpg difference as well which I am not worried about. I am worried about the ride though!

Is the ride really that bad/worse/noticeable? Thanks you all!

I just went thru this a couple months ago. I bought a set of 265/75/16 bfg ats and i have noticed that my mpg's have dropped from about 20 avg to 18. However being that we're in the summer months and running the ac constantly that may have something to do with it. I was told by a couple different tire guys that bfg is only offering the E rating in a 16 in tire because that size is getting less common these days. You are right about the weight-not really a big deal. All in all I love them, they look great and i dont notice any difference in the ride except that its a hundred times better than the rugged trails. Just like you I gave this a lot of thought and I am very happy with with these tires.

E rated tires wear great on our trucks because they are so light. The problem I have with them is getting the tire pressure right. If I run them where I should I am using about 40psi and the ride is stiffer. If I run them at 30psi it rides like a car but I am sure I am wearing the tires faster. If you go for tires that are bigger and weigh more than stock you are going to lose some performance and MPGs.

Well, from one GA boy to another, Thank you! That does make me feel better!

I actually looked again and it is going to be 17 lbs more per tire once I get these stock rugged trails off!

It was only 5lbs difference between the 265/70 and 265/75 bfg at's.

Yeah, I plan on keeping them at 35 psi. I really wished I would have researched this a bit more......

that's exactly the tire i run. It's definitely a noticeably stiffer ride, but after adjusting to it i quite like it.

I am hearing so many mixed reviews I don't know what to do! Man I wish I would have researched a bit more before I bought these!

I wouldn't get too stressed out. I researched the fuck out of my tire purchase and 265/75/r16 E-rated BFG ATs were exactly what I purchased. I am very happy with the decision and I think you will be too. 95% of my driving is on pavement to and from work. They work great in all weather conditions I have encountered, which has included plenty of snow and rain.

you'll find theres not a lot of choice in C or D rated tires at that size. Toyo has an AT available, and michelin offers their LTX AT2s in a p-rated variety as well.

Like you, I checked weights of tires and stressed about how the larger diameter would affect my power. The combined effect of heavier tires and larger diameter does have a noticeable effect on how the truck drives but it is not extremely adverse. It's just more "truck like" than the car-like dunlops our trucks often come with

That does make me feel better! This is what somebody said on another forum that has me worried....

I can tell ya this much, if I run over a dime, I can tell if it's heads or tails. You will feel the road with them more than others, the good and bad roads. About a half mile down the hard road from my house, everytime I pass by, I think my truck is coming apart. There is a bad place in the road that runs about 100 yards, that has small ripples in the pavement. Not near as noticeable in our other vehicles. And before ya'll say I need new shocks, I don't.

If I "do" decide to keep these, what PSI do I need to run in them?

Just an observation: I'd suggest, if you haven't, using the chalk method for establishing tire pressure, might find you could lower pressure some.

The pressure on the sidewall is for running the tire at it's rated load capacity, which would pretty darn high for an E rated tire. You can actually use a lot lower pressure...that chalk test would be the best way to figure it out.

Where did you get them from? I do not see that on their site at all.....

    I only see the D rating in a 265/70/16.

Does anybody know what it means when it says: Load Range 123

I saw that on Summit's site.
