Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

i think it has been brought up... but is it possible to have S mode default to whatever gear the trans is currently in instead of defaulting to 4th?

 

No. The truck will downshift to first at a stop and then accelerate up into 4th. Why exactly do you want that?...just curious

Not sure I understand. It does shift to 4th if you are above 4th and shift into S

 

He means that he wants to be able to be in 6th, and then swap to S-mode and have it stay in 6th gear rather than downshift to 4th at that point. In a nutshell, he wants to have a manual trans.

That’s the point.... he doesn’t want it to drop gears yet, he just wants it to lock to the gear he’s in.

 

this is how the Allison in my Duramax works.

click it over, it doesn't automatically drop gears...

so while towing, i can prepare for hills to come.. either by making it hold a gear, or downshift when i tell it (prematurely on some hills to get RPM up)..

the Tacoma is annoying, as when switch over to S MODE. it shifts if im in the higher gears. i can't pre plan..... or lock it in 5th ....


makes no sense to have the default for manual tap shift not be the gear the truck is already in

Sounds like you know a little about each of us.

 

Should have those files out to everyone requesting testing today. Also will be out of office for a few hours this afternoon regarding some work we are doing in Africa and may be unavailable after the holidays (out of country). Rafael will take care of inquiries during that time.

Now about S mode. I have figured out how to lock gears (on 2, 3 ) by modifying downshift tables so that it does not downshift.
But putting it in S mode and having it automatically go to the gear you're currently in does not seem possible, this is not how S mode works. 5th and 6th gear are locked out by default. So far I have found no way to modify this to stop the 5th/6th lockout.

SO...regarding having S mode default to whatever gear you're currently in, currently this is not possible.
I have not decided if S gear locking will be implemented in 1.05, or done on a case by case (custom) tuning basis.

 

How about s gear locking only if ect is on?

 

This is getting complicated I can only imagine what it's like to actually program these things. Just release 1.05 and let custom tuning handle the rest! I feel the majority of people will be fine with the generally better overall drivabilty and won't even feel the need to custom tune.
