2019 Shifting Issues Fixed?

Anybody still having shifting problems with their 2019? Or is it finally fixed?

 

I have a new 2018, only has 280 miles, no problems yet. Hope no problems.

Build date of July 2018

 

in my opinion my late July built 2018 has no shifting problems. 1285 miles.

 

One of the forum brothers stated it takes around 1200 miles to learn your driving habits
to adjust.

 

I have a 2018 built in July and it’s fine. 2800 miles.

 

I've got a 2018 with almost 1000 miles and it has shifted fine since I bought it with 3 miles on it..

 

You guys that state your truck is fine do a test for me. In local traffic driving at 35-40 mph with some coasting due to lights and traffic flow, does your truck up shift into 5th gear and dog as soon as you try to "lighty" feather pedal to pick back up with flow of traffic. If you are not sure and think you feel low power just move shifter from D over to S and it always goes into 4th gear. So, if truck dogs at 35 mph and you do this and feel a downshift into 4th......well, you were in 5th at 35 mph and that ain't fixed. I'd trade tomorrow if I knew this mess was resolved.

 

can't speak for 2019 but the 2018 TRD off road access cab I picked up 2 weeks ago could shift more responsively based on my experience with automatic transmission trucks. however....... very important here...... however!!!!! any shifting issues are not a total chaotic shit show like some people here may describe!!!!!! it is a truck that is not meant to be a high performance sports car, so a little lag may not be the end of the world. Use the ECT like ppl suggest and it helps a wee little bit. All in all coming from a 2017 JKU with 35's the shifting in the stock configuration of my TRD access cab is very good.

 

The ECT is IMO too peppy....when you let off pedal it really kinda dips forward too much,it's ok sometimes. S mode works for me by itself to avoid all this. I have driven the black 98 in my profile pic now for 20 years. Every time I get in it now I just can't believe how perfect it shifts and how nice and mindless it is to drive. If I didn't have my 98 to remind me of this I might be in denial like many others that blew 40k on something they thought was really gonna be it. I hear people talk about test driving...well then I failed my test drive, didn't notice it. Everything else about the truck is perfect, look, interior, ride, and you know it's gonna last. Just the effing motor and brain.

 

My 2018 TRD exhibits the shifting problems in a mild way on relatively flat North Texas highways. During a couple of test drives I asked the salesman what was happening with the unexpected down and up shifts, they weren't that bad. He said the trucks computer would learn your driving habits and that would stop. My stated purpose was to use the truck to pull a light travel trailer into Colorado. That's where you really see the problem. Steeper highway grades bring it out. I experience the truck shifting from 5th or 6th down at least two gears and suddenly back up repeatedly. It can bounce from 2400 RPMS to 3500 RPMs and back two or three times within 20 seconds! Trying to modify the shifting with throttle controls doesn't work unless you slow down below highway speeds. On lesser slopes (3 maybe 4 degrees ) I tried using the cruise control with the same results. The Toyota line is that this is "natural". It was my dream truck - what a wake up!

 

Late 2018 Tacoma: No shifting issues. Feels much different than my previous 2017.

Oldest son just bought a 2019 OR: No shifting issues.

 

I have a July build '18 TRD OR. It had the same CAL ID as early '18s, so no different. I had it updated for a slight improvement, but I really think this is perceived differently depending on expectations and areas you drive in.

 

I have similar build date as you guys and the trucks ship without the 58/62 TSB. Mine would hunt for gears constantly, rolling to a stop and then accelerating it would shift 4-5 times in a 10mph range. Down up, up down etc. Like the konami code. And to pass someone or accelerate into traffic the truck would sit and then slam into gear a second or two later. The 58 I had done seems to help the hunting. Only have 10 miles post flash, but rolling out the dealer it only down shifted once and then was drivable. There is deff issue's in Toyota's stock map. Feels like the original cvt trans that would hunt to keep in lowest gear possible

 

We also have a 2018 T4R. They shift much the same. The Tacoma feels peppier - even with e rated tires on it.

 

You know you can’t talk bad about the 4.0 T4R power train here. That’s the ultimate sin.

 

It’s a little early in the model year to ask, as you can see. Maybe by Christmas there will be enough 2019 owners here to get an idea. Not holding my breath.

 

I have a 2019 trd offroad and the shifting is kind of bad i mean it shifts into 6th or 5th to werey truck bugggss down until i press on the gas pedal some more then it drops gears and tbh is pretty damn annoying

 

My 18 I bought in July shifts fine. Never had a problem in the 6200 miles.
