What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Cutting/welding/breaking down your leaf pack/measuring travel numbers, essentially all the work that goes into building a proper rear shock setup for these trucks.

It's way more involved than it sounds to do it right, especially if you add boxing the frame.

If all you're doing is welding up a TC kit, and haphazardly locating the lower mount, you could do it in a day.*



*I don't recommend doing it that way.

 

Boxed frame isnt really necessary for the relocate is it?

 

I think you really need to dig into this site and start checking out the different relocations people have done both inside and outside the frame. It becomes a very involved process every time you start removing the bed, cycling the packs, and doing large amounts of welding. Most people box/plate the frame during this process since the bed is already off and out of the way anyway. Plus you shouldn't buy shocks till you cycle the pack, so then you are looking at down time waiting on shocks.

 

I'm not worried about down time, I've got a 3rd gen for that. My only real option is the Tc kit or something like it. I have a 5 gal air tank and train horns in the way

 

Relocating the shocks isn't probably necessary either unless you're really trying to maximize performance.

If you’re more worried about train horns than you are relocation, you probably don’t need to relocate.

It's more about the tank then the horns, tank is bolted through the bed. If you can find another place for an air tank I'm all ears

 

Where the stock muffler usually resides you could hide a tank easily. Or you could just not have air horns

 

It's not just about the horns, oba per chance? I could put the horns anywhere

I have a 18 " magnaflow in the stock location

 

You really don't need a tank for oba but you could totally rerout your exhaust and have the space you need

 

If the tanks for OBA you don’t really need it, just the compressor.

Tank doesn't help for filling tires unless its over 10gal

Not sure why it matters, I want the shocks how I want them. Not under the bed.

 

Technically the wheels wells are part of the bed, so either way you’re still under the bed either way.


Now if you go through bed, that’s a different story.
