Nope, I freeze them and give them to the dog raw. They are kind of spongy, and he was kind of slow to eat them the first time. He developed a taste for them and likes them now.

I doubt dogs would care. Just make sure there are no bullet fragments in them. I usually do brain shots. The brain is one of the few parts I don't use, so no waste.

I have a hereditary shake so head shots are pretty much off the menu for me.

Thanks! I agree, learned a lot about myself and capabilities and looking back now it was not so bad - but that’s what the story is for to remember the whole thing haha
This deer was definitely needed for my morale for continuing big game hunting. If I didn’t get one I would probably just have stuck to small game because of the likelihood of always coming back with wild meat and not costing so much. I’m hooked now though

had a small 10pt on one of my game cameras sniffing around where some does were, and another 1.5 yr old small almost 8pt on another camera. so they are starting to run around seeking here.

Saturday's opening day here, and the forecast is for a rain/snow mix with heavy winds all day. Only way I'm seeing anything is if I trip over where it's bedded down. :pout: Fortunately, I took Monday and Tuesday off too, and the weather is supposed to be better those days.

The weather for my upcoming elk hunt shows dropping temps and increased precipitation with ideal moon phase during that week! :bananadance::bananadance::bananadance:

looks like I'll be in your area Nov 17th until the end of the season. I'm sure my camera's will have some similar bucks on it. Only once I got a pic of a monster but it was in September. I'm thinking about trying different areas this year. I've been getting some ok bucks but want to try for better.

Ehhh thought he was bigger at 175 yards. He was rutting hard! His nose was to the ground and I couldn't get him to stop.It happened over a matter of 15 seconds from the time I saw him till I shot. I was watching a doe 20 yards from me in the woods and could hear another one moving. Then I happened to look in the field and there he was. Finally was able to let the 6.5 eat with some deer season xp's and I'm not disappointed with that ammo at all! :infantry:
