Possible Custom Pullup E-Brake?

Does anyone have an idea of changing the E-brake in a DIY project to a pullup E-brake like the Hilux. I also asked this in the "What do you DISLIKE about your Tacoma?" forum.

 

why would you want the lever in the way?

 

I understand that but is there a way to run the brake lines into a Pullup E-brake? Even if the center console has to be exposed?

 

I don't like the placement and the look of the pullout. It feels like it might break.

 

if you don't mind the ragged appearance it actually seems simple. want a sketch?

 

I think WHipper is on to something. The e-brake is a cabled brake and the lines run up thru the center console with a "mixing joint" for lack of a better term under there.

I'm sure you could re-route them to make them work with the up pull mechanism- but at what cost to your console space and the brake feel may be no better....

great idea, I hate how our e-brake control is designed. Im spoiled by the perfect location of the e-brake lever on my WRX. I prefer pull up ones. My friends always laugh when I pull my Taco e-brake

 

idk toyota truck have had them in the same place for idk how many years already. i guess im used to it lol...i like it where it is...plus i dont have a center console.

should be neat to see if someone does do this though

Does anyone know if it is possible to move the brake lines around yourself or would you need it professionally done?

 

Ive thought about this a few times. all you would need to do is mount a pull up lever where the little coin tray is to the left of the gear shifter and hook the cables into the lever. since they are already right underneath it it wouldnt be to hard I dont think.

Yeah, but if it required too much equipment I didn't want to try and do it myself.

 

I'll take the manual 4x4 to 4x2 transfer case...

up/down hand brake should only be in cars...that's MHO...

my e-brake where's its located is more then sufficient...

 

simple answer. Yes it can be done. at what cost and whats involved, I dont know. As far as I know I have never seen it done by anyone on here. If you were gonna try and tackle this by yourself then you better have some mechanical knowledge and some fab skills to make brakets for the new lever and be able to cut the console without butchering it.

if that scares you then talk to a shop about it. they may tell you they can do it but it'll cost you a pretty penny. How much would this mod really be worth to you? if your missing your left leg then I would say its probably worth it...if you have both legs then probably not worth paying a shop to have it done

 

I don't really want to have a shop do it and it's not absolutely necessary but it'd be pretty sweet
