Ok so not really that old but 45. So just got an 07 crew cab 4x4 short bed and want to do some wheels/tires. I love the Fuel Mavericks in 20x9 but I just think Id be better suited to do something like some Ray 10's in 17's because I do want to take it off-road some. The look of the fuels are great and I do like them but they seem to be more of a younger crowd thing. I've been googling and doing some searching on this site but I do want to go the route of a smaller wheel and larger tire for real off-road rather than looks of the 20's and big wheels even though they look outstanding. Thanks in advance for the input. Great Site!

Congrats on the new to you Taco, Chealth!

My advice is to pick a wheel model you like, you'll be happier in the long run

Hey now, if you are old then it means I’m even older (by a couple of years)! I say get what YOU like and don’t worry about it. It’s your truck so get what you want and don’t look back. I bought Ray 10s a few weeks back and then bought Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws from @Discount Tire Direct. They have great prices and service. With regards to the Rays, it seems like they were just made for these trucks but don’t be afraid to go out and get what you like. Make your truck your own when you mod it. With DTD, if you find a lower price they will generally beat it.

I am in the process of picking out some wheels also.

Trying to nail down the size and type of tire first, direction
    I want to go.

As cheap as it is to buy the 3rd gen OEM wheels and tires on here I’d be tempted to buy a couple sets of them and abuse them at will. The first set of four tires that fail throw on new all-terrain tires of choice. Second set of four then become dedicated snow tires. Orginal set just as a standby. By the time you get tired of them the 4th gen wheels will be on wholesale.

I definitely would not go with 20x9's (Fuel or otherwise) if you're thinking about offroad. You'll want your tires to have sidewalls. I'm in more of the camp that you don't take nice rims off-road, but what do I know? I don't off-road. Also lots of different levels of 'off-road'

33s and 17s are a solid choice. I would also avoid 20s at all cost if you want to leave the pavement

285/75/17 falken at3 on 17" raceline clutch in bronze. So far I like them, the falkens either run large or generals run small as my last set (general at2 in the same size) didnt rub at all, and this new set up does a little at full lock

32’s/33’s on 16’s/17 even look good and offer the best functionality in my opinion. My favorite model right now is the Ray 10 by SCS. But I’m rocking Mickey Thompson’s at the moment.
