I had mine done last year for TSB-007716 and felt my truck shifted a lot better since that update is this one any different from that one? I thought my truck was already "fixed" since that TSB

This is a newer calibration. Your truck will benefit from it.

A MILLION times this. I just had this done today. It's like a new vehicle. It actually responds when you step on the gas and you don't have to put your foot through the floor to get moving. Do it.

I just searched my VIN and Toyota says there are no updates or safety recalls. I just bought it in August. I have about 3k miles on it. I live in the foothills west of Denver at about 8000ft. I do a lot of driving up and down grade, and the 3 to 4 shift point sucks. I don't have the miss, and I run 87 octane. Even in shift mode it is hard to keep it in a gear. Is there an aftermarket fix?

Took my 16’ in for 35k today. Asked dealer to do update based on TSB 77-16 and 68-18. They said they’ve done it so I’ll check the paperwork when I pick it up. I’m also going to buy a blue driver obd2 scanner so I’ll verify the update there too. (Need it for other vehicles also not just this)

I can’t say I’ve ever noticed my truck to stumble or stall, it’s definitely not the most peppy truck without ECT on, but I figured an update is an update. I’ll report back on how it drives and if it’s any different than before.

Pay no attention to the comment above. This was a good post.

Why someone would post a snarky comment instead of just ignoring never made sense to me.

    Your insight is very helpful.

Status update from my recent ECU flash.

I just filled up my tank before driving home from work. All highway miles home. The dealer pumped my tires up to 38 PSI.

I’ve noticed that Park to 1st and 1st to 2nd are now smoother. I used to get a pretty rough jump going from park to 1st.

I learned that 5th gear and 6th gear really aren’t that much different. I cruise at about 1800 rpms going 75 in 6th and 2200 rpms doing the same in 5th. I have a bunch of overpass hills that I always assumed I was just giving more gas (more rpms) to maintain speed but it’s actually dropping into 5th. So it’s still a bit of a hunter but in my case I just think how it’s designed. (Tested it by popping it into S mode.)

I’ve noticed that it seems to hold 4th gear longer getting up to 70+ Mph, all the way up to high 5000 low 6000, not even petal to the floor, but typical acceleration.

I typically get about 17-19 mpg on my way home std and can sometimes get a bit more, driving in ECT.

Does anyone know if there’s video out there showing the stumble/stutter. I YouTubed it and the only thing that popped up was a guy with a leaky 3rd break light.

The trucks not as peppy as my wife’s 05 Rav 4 which drives like a go-kart Barbie car, but it seems to drive alright to me.

I just got a Veepeak OBDII today and have it connected to my android through the Torque (Lite) app. Can anybody tell me or point me in the right direction on how to read it to see my ECU calibration number?

Had TSB 77-16 applied yesterday and got the B0400 update now....it is much improved but I still want ECT on all the time. Getting 22-24 around town today after fill up. Looking forward to an OVTune purchase down the road.

Can you tell me how to find the calibration ID?

I just got a Veepeak OBDII today and have it connected to my android through the Torque (Lite) app.

Edit: I got it through another app. Mine is 8966304B0300

No way I am going to have the 68-18 done to my Tacoma which is an '18 mfg. in May '18 and the VIN is listed on the update. My neighbor did his '18, 7 weeks ago, seemed to have made an improvement; however after driving it for 2k miles it is now worse than before. He is really pissed. I have no problems with the shifting in my truck; its almost a 5000lb. truck with a tough V6 with 6k miles and does what it is supposed to from the factory, its not broke and does not need fixing.

I don't have any issues, so I'm going to leave it alone. Suggesting to people that they fix what is not broken is not really the best thing to do.

Called my dealership about the TSB 0062 reflash and they say my truck doesn't have a recall for that TSB. Have been very fortunate not to have the problems with the tranny that most others have had. Going for my 30k service later this month so I won't pursue this update. Why try to fix something when it's not broke..

Guys saying why try to fix something when its not broke, should stop updating their phones, houses, tv's or even getting oil changes. TSB's are designed to fix an issue. If you have a tacoma 16-18 that doesn't have the 62-18, that means there is an issue, whether you notice it or not. And if there wasn't an issue, Toyota would not create a TSB to fix it. SO GET THE UPDATE. also if your dealership is trying to say they can't do it, probably cuz their busy, or their service manager is a clown.

Bought my 2017 about a year ago. Called last month and was told there were no flash updates available. Took it to dealer last week for first free service. Complained about poor throttle response from idle. After some discussion, the service writer translated my complaint to something, something, driveability, blah, blah, and a free re-flash was included with my oil change. In the first 50 miles ( interstate and around town), I can notice at least 3 improvements in the engine/transmission management. I really hope it doesn’t try to “learn” better for a long time, because this may be as good as it gets. Almost as spunky as my ‘06 Highlander V6.
Invoice referenced TSB 0058-18 ...software update ...warranty.

I bought my truck used, now I don’t notice any stumble or issues. Is there a way to see if the TSB has been done already?

You can ask your dealer if they can check if there is any update on ECU.

I just took my 2018 Tacoma TRD Sport in for its first 5000 mile service. I told my dealer the transmission was hunting for gears and had a stumble. When I picked it up my invoice it said: C/S truck does a lot of shifting
Cause: found the transmission shifting erratically- performed software update
    EG1810 reprogram ECM (PCM)
    Part # 89661-04K53

My TRD Sport is now shifting very smooth like our 2016 Toyota Highlander Limited Platinum does. It has very good throttle response now, when you accelerate it has plenty of power without having to floor it, and it is pulling harder because it stays in the gears longer. It is like a different truck now when I drive it. My wife even noticed the difference and I only told her I got the first service done. She said it feels like it has more power now. I am very impressed with the update and love my new 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport.
